I am having a knowledgable friend complete my upgrades and he asked me what rollers I want in there, (Tecnomoto variator). Can you guys please give me an idea of what is a good baseline to choose.

a) looking for improvement throughout the whole power band. No real stress on launch or topend.
b) riders all weigh 150 lbs

Upgrades:

70cc airsal kit
19mm arreche carb (85 / middle slot)
Tecnigas RS exhaust
red springs
Tecnomoto variator ( DO NOT POST COMPETITOR LINKS! OR YOU CAN BE BANNED! These variators are also for sale on www.provoscooter.com (http://www.provoscooter.com) and probably cheaper then the link you posted! Jered)

Thanks.

you replaced the clutch springs? If not then that will also need addressing... the stock ones are pretty weak...

Normally it's between 4.5-7 for your set up depending on how you have the clutch set up with the torque spring and the clutch springs...

5g will work just fine if you use the techno torque spring and the the thickest spacer. Otherwise you'll want a red malossi or yellow motorio torque spring with the 5 gram weights.

Are you familier with what they mean about eventually not using the rollers and going to the one piece weight?

"The one piece roller is better for periodic maintenance so once the weight is known using the supplied rollers, when worn, just replace with the 1 piece."

I need to describe what to do to a friends shop.

Thanks.

the tecnomoto comes with weights that go inside caps. This allows you to change weights quickly. The caps arent meant for permanent use, just for tuning. Theres silver colored , brass colored , and i think a solid insert. 1 piece rollers are just the standard 16x13mm rollers.

these are like the tecno rollers. you can see tha caps and the weights that go in the middle. http://scooter-center.com/catalog/images/products/big4299.jpg

these are standard 1 piece rollers

Have you seen this kit in person. I now do not have it in my possession.

exactly, there are the plastic caps and the metal inserts. You just use the inserts to tune. The buy regular rollers once you have found the proper weight. the lightest silver inserts and the caps weigh about 5g. That works correctly.

Thanks.

I just saw this: http://www.provoscooter.com/shop/howtotecnovar.php

2 caps per roller, I guess that was throwing me. My fault.

3 red springs came in the box with the whole upgrade kit. They are the clutch springs right?

Any install info on here for those. I am not doing it but would be good to know to do it.

So, 5 grams, thickest spacer and see how it rides... o_o

Thanks a whole lot.

yeah, clutch springs. just pull the old ones off and stretch the new ones on. You'll need a 17mm socket to get the clutch bell off and a 41mm socket (or a vice and strap wrench) to get off the clutch nut.

another tip is to grab the spring hook with vise grips or some locking needle nose...if you try to use regular pliers or needle nose ..it will kill your hand...and you cant tip the hook back enough to fit into the hole.

Yea, I use a good pair of Craftsman vise-grip pliers. Its much easier with them.

why not actually use the correct tool to stretch the springs. They are only $4.

I have many types/styles of "pick" tools, BUT none of them can help turn the hook into the eye. ;no I have tried it, and with some help of the thumb it is possible, but locking Vise grips are MUCH MUCH easier!

The springs are basically the same (tension/design ) as brake drum springs, I have been an Army mechanic and have foregone all specific brake spring tools for, NATURES TOOL, the Vise-Grip. IMO it works the best for this installation omong other uses.

They work killer for exhaust springs ect. But for the clutch springs I couldn't get it into the slot. The tool will always go to the center of the spring which leaves pretty much nothing to get it into the hole. The hook of the spring is simply too small in my attempt anyway. I hate using a vice grip as they can cut into the spring slightly which now creates the spot they will break. But in this case I think the vice grip may be the best solution. I gave up mself on both methods and removed the pads themselves. Then I got one shoe started on the pin and then worked on the others until they were started and tapped them home.

I think getting kicked between the legs is more enjoyable then fighting with these damn springs.

Yeah i used it for exhaust springs. I'd always try to stay clear of vice grips bc as you say they really compress the heck ouf the spring and create a nasty stress riser.

Clutch springs? What are those? Polini 2g baby.
