What I sent them:
I am looking for the parts to make my 2004 Yamaha Zuma faster/quicker.
This is for a 195 LB rider in flat/small hills area, 0-200 feet above
sea level in Maryland. I ride abot 30 miles each time I go out but has
been up to 70 miles in one day as well.
What is the Malossi wide-range transmission pulley?
I am guessing I need:
70cc cylinder- cast iron or aluminum?
Carburetor
Exhaust
Variator
Clutch springs
Kevlar belt
Reeds
Crankshaft
What else am I missing?
Got any other advice?
I guess what I am asking is what is the best set up to make my scooter
go faster and get there quicker- if it was yours what would you do to
it?
Know anyone in Maryland who is good working on Zumas?
Thanks,
Mark
Hello Mark,
The over range transmission is basically a larger diameter front
variator and rear pulley assembly. It is designed to work with any of
the 70cc cylinder kits. The cost is rather pricey for the power gains
you get. A local guy down here is trying one on his bug eye now. I use
one myself on my Super 9 but have a more highly modified bike than
normal standards.
The overall performance is increased the best with the changing of the
cylinder, carb, exhaust and variator. There are smaller items need for
the final tuning such as clutch springs and roller weights. The stock
clutch can be used but it needs to be modified if any aftermarket torque
drive springs are used. Most customers just use the Polini 2G clutch as
it is a very good assembly and makes the final tuning easier.
The choice of cylinder is more personal preference. I only use cast iron
if the price is right. Aluminum transfers heat much better and the T6
Airsal is one of the most popular ones used. It is important that the
carburetor jetting is correct. If the engine does not get enough fuel
the piston expands faster than the cylinder and results in what is
called a seizure. It makes little difference if it is cast iron or
aluminum if the jetting is wrong. For the Zuma Yamaha went to a 2 cable
throttle assembly. One of the cables will need to be replaced and the
other modified. Not very difficult but it does take about an hour to do.
We include the new throttle cable with the carb if requested at the time
of purchase. The original choke assembly will not fit the new carb. We
offer either a manual or automatic model priced 20.00 and 25.00
respectively.
Everything on your list is needed to getting the optimum performance.
The belt should not need to be replaced unless it is a year old or more
than 3k on it. It will still be a good reliable unit if everything is
installed correctly. You will not need to replace the crankshaft. It
might be a good idea to replace the wrist pin bearing if you decide to
install the cylinder kit.
The Powerpack is 375.00
Variator kit 89.00
Polini Clutch 109.00
Electric choke 25.00
Best regards,
Steve
