Depending on rider weight they can go anywhere from 30(restricted), 40-50(derestricted). There have been those people on here who claim to be getting 60 or so out of theirs but I find that pretty hard to believe as I have spent plenty of money and am getting only around 65ish.

Stock they're good for 50mph unrestricted, no hype there. ppl claim more due to the larger tires though.

that and it seems people with the GT5s are going faster than the stock ones, altho all i know is the gt5 is a just a sportier look model

I am almost certain there's something off about my speedometer so that it reads much higher than I am going. Sometimes when I come to a complete stop the speedometer is still at 20 and coming down. Is it common at all in Vento Triton R4s?

Remember that the speedo is driven by a little gear and the needle is still going while your stopping. Like on a car when your slowing down the speedo isnt reading the exact same speed but close. Does your speedo needle jump around when your accelerating? If so your cable might be about to break causing bad readings.

I hit an indicated 57mph yesterday on flat road going with traffic, so I might have had a little draft going. I don't have a gps so I can't confirm how accurate the speedo is. 05 Triton GT5.

There is a long hill that I go down about 3 times a week in my area. Last evening I hit an indicated 57 mph near the bottom on my GT5. Not long after I got the bike I hit a very short 60 on the speedo but that was with a tail wind and a very long steep hill. At 57 the tach was at 10.1 k. It feels right but I don't know how accurate the digital package is on the GT5. I know that it feels on the edge for control of a bike with 12 inch tires. JMO. I can usually hold around 48+/- on flat with little or no wind.

first of all weight must be conserded in all of the speed claims i weigh 250 and ive gone 45 stock ... on the flat since im bigger i would go faster then a lighter person down the same hill ... ive modded my vento r4 and ive gone 55to 57 mph on the same road that is with a gps since the r4 speedo only goes to 50 ... and uphill depending on the hill i loose any where between 5 to 10 mph off the top speed... heck i wore a wind breaker today and lost 4 mph ... when you only make 5 to 8 hp any thing will make a difference

I weigh 200 lbs and am 6'1" tall. Hard to tuck low on a scooter but when I have tried I could gain a couple of mph.

I checked my speedo against my fps and it is definately off. My fps clocks me at exactly 1 gazillion mph. You wan realistic so here it is. This is gonna take a minute to spit it all out cause I like to write novels. These are all the things I found with my scooter as I was tunning it. I only used the stock speedo and once I wrode along with my girl friends jeep and got it up to 60 with just a 70cc cylinder kit before I backed off.
My 2005 Triton R4 stock, after about 280 miles on the cylinder would easily hit the 50mph and then some on the speedo. I weigh 170 lbs and drive primarily flat ground. I think the double cone expansion chamber pipe that comes stock on the GT5 may be the reason you get a little more top end over the R4.
Using the stock 50cc cylinder with an unrestricted air filter, 19mm carb, expansion chamber pipe, stiffer clutch springs (blue polini), and a stronger torque spring (Malossi white) I still hit the 50 with ease and gained power up hill and into the wind when in the mid range at about 30-45. A slight hill would not slow me down and I still felt like I had some power to spare. Oddly, the wind could still give quite a bit of resistance but you felt like you had some controll over your acceleration versus the stock set up which would leave me feeling like the wind could very well push me backwards with a stiff enough breeze.
With a 70cc cylinder kit and the stock air filter, stock carb, stock silverstone pipe and totally stock clutch, I had even more speed at the top end (I could easily send the needle past the 50) and more torque at take off and through the mid range. The scooter gained a very even feeling acceleration with appreciable torque at all speeds. The rpms seemed to raise and lower very consistantly with the throttle. Wind was no longer an issue. I lost some acceleration into a head wind but I accelerated to near top end just the same. While riding between two hospitals I work at, I caught my girlfriend at a light in a slight rain with about a 5mph head wind. I told her to try and keep up and give me my speed. Upon arival she said I wrode a consistant 60mph for about 4 miles. 60 on a scooter in traffic in the rain with only a front disk brake and a rear drum seemed awfully fast at the time.
In allinstances I used the stock variator cause the so called performance one I bought just wont tune for me. Any way; with a 70cc cylinder, unrestricted air filter, 19mm carb, carbon fiber reeds, modified clutch, removed oil injector and tank, running premixed 32:1 Blue Marble synthetic, and Mobile 1 synthetic gear oil in the tranny, I have no idea how fast it is. The thing is just scary!! I can leave any car on the road at a light thinking WTF was that. (Parden my french.) It is a lot louder over stock when accelerating and when hitting the power band but it calms down to a nice buzzzz that sounds just like the stock 50cc set up to me once you are at cruising speed (30-45mph). The engine is quite peeky with a well defined power band. It took a little getting used to but once I did it became quite pleasureable to ride. I could probablly get more top end with an over range tranny and a new set of gears but I feel that I am at a comfortable medium between reliability and performance.
Now for a quick comment in defense of exagerators. I don't think people here are lying. I mean, I have no idea what my top end is in mph. I know that if measured in fun my scooter is the fastest bestest scooter in the world cause it,s mine and I'm only comparing it to the scooters I have experience with. THIS ONE. I have a really nice gps with topo maps so I can find my deer stands but as I don't take my scooter deer hunting, I don't beleive I'll be using my gps on my scooter any time soon. I think that when we pressure people into giving a quantitative response to a question about riding their scooters, they probably have no real idea down to the mph what their scooter will do. What they give in stead is a qualitative answer. They simply want to express their level of enjoyment in the format you request. So I guess the short answer to this whole question is that my Vento Triton R4 scooter will go about a gazillion mph according to my fps (fun positioning system). So you can ignore everything but these last two sentences if so desired. ::handleba

Nice write up Albatros. I most certainly agree with your final analogy. The fun factor is the most important and if I want to go faster or quicker I have other options to do so. I have ofter stated that even stock my scooters have pushed past the edge where I feel safe. It's just a matter of knowing your scooters limitations and riding in areas that do not exceed them. :spiny:

Stock My Triton R4 runs about 48 MPH on the flats. I weigh about 230lbs. I'm putting a 70cc kits with the 19 mm Areche Carb. Does the bike idle normal with the Areche Carb.

The bike will idle normally as long as you have adjusted the idle and a/f screws correctly. Also adjusting the slack up at the handlebars helps to make the idle a bit smoother and gives better throttle response.
