Hi,
I just got 2001 Vino with 14k miles on it. Its not bad at all. Runs Smooth! I was able to do 35mph and 30mph with a passanger :-). (no mods installed). I had some Lawnmover dude adjust my carbourator (twisted the little screw), the engine sounds much better now. I want to replace my drive belt, just in case this one is worn out. The kevlar driving belt is a bit over my budget for the next two years :-) (i spent all my money on vino). I was wondering what dimensions is it? Is there a standard or universal drive belt that I can get.... let me know. and how about shocks? are there any universal shocks that will fit?

My other questions are, how much mpg do you get? I got around 80mpg.

Thanks guys,
V

how many rebuild on that motor?

I was thinking about other belts too. Try an auto parts store, or an appliance repair shop.

Im thinking that a standard fractional HP belt or auto accessory belt from the auto supply or hardware store will not hold up to the constant abuse that the CVT belt goes through. Im sure you can try though... Check with your local Yamaha dealer for a new belt. My Malossi kevlar one was $30, so the stock one should be like $15?

If it is not slipping, or torn up, then you don't need to change it....

Well, if there's 14k on the original motor, my hats off, that's getting close to double the 8k life expectancy of them.

Thats alot of miles my 2003 ZUMA HAS 7660 original miles. With this miles clean the carb change the airfilter and get a polini big bore kit if you can afford it. 14k Thats half of mine somebody must be doing alot of long trips constantly.

Well, the engine has been rebuilt (the owner told me). it runs good. I was able to hall girls on it ;). I go around 35 mph when I ride it. Is that good or bad? Wear&tear?

ok, back to school.

there's a guy in our local group who has a derestricted stock vino (2001?).
The engines never been rebuilt but he has replaced the belt and tires a number of times. This is the best... his speedometer reads... ready..... 20,000+ kms! He said there are a few Vino's in the Yahoo groups that are stock and are even higher! (oh, and he's reverend so we know his speedo is correct  )

??? are you guys telling me that the life expectancy on my 2004 vino motor is 8000 miles? 13,000km?? THAT's ALL?

At my current commuting distance of 30km per day, that means I'll get maybe 2 years of 'life'???

What get re-built and when to keep this puppy 'alive' longer?

Where does it say that the expected life span is 8000 miles?

There was a thread on how many miles.

No real hard #'s from the makers- just what others have seen.

yes, when he adjusted it, he made it get more fuel. So yes your economy could very well change.

8000 miles life. Everybody keep in mind that htese are two stroke engines. The only lube that the crank/wrist pin bearings get is from the oil injection. Two strokes are NEVER as reliable as a 4's.

STILL CHEAP!

$2200 for brand new Zuma
$192.60= $1.80/gal at 75 MPG for a total of 107 gallons
$40= $5/quart at 1 quart per 1000 miles

what else- tires? belt? brakes? Say $400 tops.

36 cents a mile- try getting that out of anything else so much fun....

well stated... however your forgetting my mod costs... Lets see over $800... So that makes mine over $50 a mile.... still not bad... oh but factor in the MPG... about 50... well so I'm not doing so good now... OH WELL! I still love the little beast!

Why the polini?

Because the kit is made in ITALY. And is more dependable than mexico kits.

I believe your vino has 14k But he must done at least 2 rebuilds. How much did you pay for it? And I dont agree the 4 strokes are more dependable . Lennox I know they are depandable but take a 4 stroke and make it air cooled see what happens. They run alot hotter the valves will get got and bend like they do in cars. I run my zuma forever never had problems with cooling thats the major problem in motors try to make them run as cool as possible

i am utterly confused and shocked... 8,000 miles? no way. i just bought a 2004 vino six months ago and am at 4,000 miles now. I have done absolutely nothing to the bike so far, except fix a few flats and add oil, and it's running wonderfully smooth, all the time, at 40+ mph. tomorrow morning i'm bringing it to the dealer for a tune up, and i just got my stage one in the mail this morning... are you really telling me i'm halfway to the engines demise? i find that hard to believe.

and 36 cents a mile? (not for me though, i get like 60 mpg) is NOT that great a deal. you can buy a used car for the price of a new vino and put fifty to a hundred thousand miles on it without too many problems.

who's got a vino that crapped out at 8k? what exactly happened? i'd really like to know. also, i'll be asking the dealer about this whole life expectancy issue tomorrow, and i'll let you know what they say...

Kitting out the Vino will give you better performance (i.e go faster), but will put more strain on the engine, so it will not last as long. Those who have reached the high mileage marks (without rebuilds) have not done any modifications only the 2 de-restrictions.

Maybe I should have made FUN in bold letters.

I was saying more that .36/mile in my mind is cheap for this much fun. I have ATV's, fast cars, good handling cars and so on and and cost much more than .36 a mile- for me at least.

Now talk to someone who owns a Ferrari dealership who can demo a car on company time with company fuel than that is a lot more fun and a lot cheaper.

It must be the net... I don't try to come off like I am super serious..

Jered,

You have to be up there at like $50/mile- imagine if you were me and were paying someone to deal with all that crap!

In all actuality, it is not that big of a deal if the engine does wear out at 8000 miles. It is not like a car engine where it would be thousands to replace it. With the 50cc it is most likely a cyl bore and piston replacement. Unless something is seriously wrong, the "bottom end" should be ok. Parts cost for a rebuild would be on the order of $300. If you are somewhat familiar with tools you could probably do the work yourself. It really isnt that complicated. Just go buy a service manual...

Today the odometer reads 20,740 km to be exact. "No rebuild" - stock engine, de-restricted muffler, washer removed - second set of tire (1st replaced @ 13,000 km) - 3rd belt (1st replaced @ 10,000 km, 2nd @ 20,000 km) - many spark plugs (they're relatively cheap & a clean spark aids a clean combustion) - roller replacement (1st time) later this week, as well as try out new (stock) clutch spring.

Keep looking up & pressing forward!

When at YMC, the specs read 7500 on or about was the life expectancy of these motors.
