I've seen varying opinions on how reliable...and quality. It's one of those "those that love it...love it, those that hate it...bash it".
I'd have to say that they are definately VERY popular in the UK.
I bought a used one, 2000 (Speedfight 2 50cc) with 16,000 miles on it. I do like it. It's relatively easy to modify, parts are easy to find.
2 things that stand out in my mind... The kickstart, SUCKS. If it hasn't stripped yet, it will....so just go ahead and replace the gear wheel now.
MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL THE KEYS. They are fitted with an immobilizer, tied to the CDI. You should get a key to start it...a key for the Boa lock in the back, and a "Master" key. If you do not have this master key, and the CDI unit goes, OR you lose your key!, you will be replacing the whole mess!! That's about 300 pounds in the UK (roughly)...so about $500 or there abouts.
If it's a restricted 50...it'll do about 31mph. Easy enough to get it up to about 40 without spending anything. To get beyond that requires a little bit of investment. Polini Variator kit (around 35 pounds I think, UK) will get it up to about 50 with a derestricted exhaust. Replace the exhaust (and be in my shoes) and you really need to look at the carb and airfilter. I put a LeoVince ZX on (about 83 pounds) and got up to around 58...but killed my take off and low end - so I'm getting an Arreche 19m carb, new air filter, Malossi fly clutch and we'll see what happens. I'm expecting 60-65 if I can get all this to behave nicely together.

yeh its a speedfight 100cc, im pretty sure the kickstart is wacked, but i rarely use it. With the keys, i made sure i got a key straight away which cost me $100, but if i didnt have that key, it would have cost me around AU$2000! Have a look in my garage below to look at my speedfight.

Nice looking scoot! If the kickstart is gone, it's a really cheap fix. Shop over here only charged me 30 pounds (50 bucks roughly) parts and labor. It was in for something else, or I would have done it myself.
