I am wondering if jetting is an issue with four stroke motors. I live pretty close to sea level and what I want to know is do I have to do any tuning if I want to take the bike to Lake Tahoe (6000 ft) or someplace like that.

So can I get away with adjusting the air fuel mixture screw on the carb or will I have to change jets?

i dont like them becuase the following 1 lack of power, 2 takes longer to get up to speed, 3 having to tune the carb for every thing, 4 performance parts are three times as muchs as 2-strokes parts, 5 four strokes are heavy,
i have more but i dont want to post them.
i like the body styles on alot of 4-strokes, i just dont like the motor unless it is a clutched trans 3speed 4speed and so on.

So you're telling me that you don't have to tune a two stroke? On a four stroke altitude change will just effect performance if I don't tune it right if I hear everyone right. A two stroke risks siezing the motor! Also, I weigh 240lbs and I haven't found a hill yet that the bike won't take with me AND my wife on it. The scoot will also still do 50-55 mph with both of us on it and that's the normal top speed.
Don't get me wrong, I LIKE two strokes. I'm not trying to argue which is better because I'll get 500 different opinions BUT don't knock the four stroke (no pun intended) becuase there's positives and negatives for both

Is the Stella the only scooter > 50 cc sold in the US that is a two stroke?

to start... most of the 50cc engined scooters on the US market are 2 stroke engines...
Vino, Zuma, Twist and go's, etc... They are pretty much all a variation of the same engine as well... There are some odd ones and such, this is just a general statement... So there is no arguements...
Anyway, along the 4VS2 stroke engines...
2 strokes are extremely tempermental... The general "idea" is that the 2 stroke 50cc is more powerful/higher top end than the 50cc 4 stroke... apparently your saying you are at 55ish mph stock... That's pretty darn good for a 50cc engine stock... That's where I am on my 2 stroke after almost a grand worth of parts!
The 2 stroke can need carb and possibly jet tuning with humidity changes... So yes there are positives and negatives of each the 2 and 4 stroke engine... Most people are just used to the 2 strokes for a 50cc engine and there are apparently not a lot of aftermarket parts available for the 4 stroke... Therefor the idea of it being "non-tuneable or hard to tune"... I've got ZERO experience with the 4 stroke scooter engine... best I've had was on a 5hp briggs and stratton engine... Not quite a good compairison... but the 5hp engine could be played with to make a good 10hp or so... However that is crank power not wheel power... So....
You pick what you like... Can't make someone who insist that 2 strokes are the way to go, change to 4 strokes... or virsa visa! :o

She may have meant only large displacement tu-stroke engine for sale in referring to the Stella.

oops... now that I saw the > 50cc... That goes back to math! I'm bad at math! OOPS!
I think you are right, most of the above 50cc motors appear to be 4 stroke... Then again... I think the reason of the 50cc motors being 2 stroke is you can make more "EASY" power out of a 2 stroke 50cc engine...
You know whats sad... we have a SMALL weedwacker at work... it is 25cc's! WOW! Our scooters stock are 2 times the size of a SMALL FREAKING WEEDWACKER!

That is what I thought, all the newer larger displacement scooters are 4 stroke.
What is going to happen to the 50cc scooter market when all that is available are 4 strokes in 2006?
I have read on the battlescooter site that some Honda Ruckus owners have gotten their scoots up to 50 mph.
I think the modifications are pricey though.

Your right about that jered when its to cold, engines run like Crap!!!
FOG dont run the Engine well at all. temperture has to be Just Right for the engines to run Good i hope next time to Build a engine thats not tempermental....
