ok, so last week i changed my oil for the 1st time on my new scooter. i did it myself. everything went fine. all bolts were tightened well.

about a week later i'm riding down the street (it's dark) and i hear this loud noise underneath my bike. sounds like running over a pop can or something.

i turn around to see what i hit and i notice a trail of fluid from the spot i heard the noise and back for about a half block. i see nothing in the road that i could have hit though.

i get back to my house and check the oil level, it appears to be completely empty so i go get some oil and re-fill it. it only takes about a half of the bottle to get the oil window back up to where it should be. the bike hasn't leaked at all since then. that was 2 days ago.

i'm a little paranoid about every sound i hear now. was it the oil that leaked? the main bolt underneath the bike was still on and tight, as was the side bolt. there was a little bit of oily fluid on the bottom bolt, but just a little.

could it have been a different fluid or was it the oil? it was such a strange noise and then the oil level was emptied. but hasn't leaked at all since.

any ideas, anybody!!?!?!?!!

This is mind boggling.

Grauzone, this may be a little late for you but I had the same issue as the dealer placed too much oil into my scoot the first oil change after my first 500km breakin period. (My dealer says he will void my warranty if I change the oil myself until it is over....). what happened is I heard the same noise the day of the oil change. I did not have as much oil come out as you did but none the less the oil level dropped in the window as it was full past the line then after right down to the line. It is coming out of the muffler. I know this because one of the first mods I made was to have spikes come out of the rear of the muffler. They were covered in oil. Completely soaked. Cleaned them off and no problem after except for a slight covering that covers the spike right beneath the exhaust outlet every ride..kind a black powder. The muffler lets a little bit of oil out on every ride. Seems like it is a normal thing unless someone tells me I shouldn't have anything coming out of my muffler...let me know guys since my old Franken-Lambreta 150 had everything but the kitchen sink come out of it's muffler.

I just got a vino but as far as putting to much oil in and then having it come out the exhaust I believe you blew a seal or gasket but that is just my experience with motorcycles. might not be a bad leak but that is why you have oil on your spikes.

Hello, I'm brand new to the forum, and just picked up a used Vino125 this past weekend.
I discovered that the oil was overfilled on my Vino, the airbox had a lot of oil in it, and the plug was pretty much fouled with oil.
My thinking is that because of the almost horizontal position of the cylinder that overfilling with oil can result in oil in the combustion chamber. And once that tube at the rear of the airbox is full of oil, and the airbox itself starts to fill up, there will be oil coming in with the intake air, so you have two ways for oil to end up in the combustion chamber and the exhaust.

pull the tube off of your airbox... is there a reason you can't remove it?

if it's on the unfiltered side of the airbox, you could put a small K&N filter on it to keep the air clean so it's not an issue...

Am unsure why you would let the tube fill up with oil. It comes off with a pull once you remove the clip. I have done several oil changes and have never even seen oil in this area. Could you please also explain how oil could even get into the airbox. From the over 100+ times I have had the airbox off I don't even know how oil could get into the airbox. Air goes in and flows around to the carb. Forced air from the cooling fan blows in as well. No oil inlets. I would really love to get clarification as I have never heard of this. If you are getting oil in the airbox like you are saying you need to let your mechanic or myself know so I can tell you what to do to fix...do not let this go as it shouldn't happen from what you describe....

The previous owner of my scoot apparently didn't pay attention to such things. :(

From the breather tube. Pretty much all vehicles have a tube that vents crankcase pressure into the airbox. If the oil is overfilled it is more likely that oil will travel from the crankcase to the airbox via this hose. Yamaha apparently knows that some amount of oil is going to end up in the box, or they would not have put that little tube with the plug at the rear of the airbox. I assume at this point that with the oil at an appropriate level, very little if any oil will get into the airbox. I have totally cleaned the airbox, so down the road I will know. :)
