I got pulled over yesterday because i forgot to wear my glasses.. The bike cop gave me a ticket for no glasses and then he also gave me a ticket for no license endorsement for a motorcycle.. i was way pissed because i have heard from numerous people that you didnt have to have one for a 49cc zuma.. The cop insisted though that i had to have a license for this.
I think he is wrong about this, anyone else no any info on this?

Many states do not require a motorcycle's license to ride, but there are states like NY and CA that require them. What state are you in?
Maybe we need to run a thread asking people to post which states require and which do not require a license. If I had the extra time this week, I'd do a search though FedDOT web site that lists all the state's and their requirements.

To be legal you need a motorcycle licence. Go get a permit at the dmv. Learn before you take it. You must have insurance in the state of California. And registration. Before you appear in court get your insurance if he cited you with out insurance and get a motorcycle licence they will lower your ticket.
Those highway patrol are really hard these days. Its my second time I got pulled over for the past month. Especialy the bike highway patrol. If they pull you over these days they are giving you a ticket. The sheriffs the "POLICE" Are not that hard. Its like the more they pull over they get more money for themselves.

Nope, when I was a cop we never got commission on tickets. The reason for increase "hard ass-ism" is because of the recent increase scooters o on the road, an increase in thefts, and accidents, as well as an increase on unlicensed, and skilled, and untrained riders presenting an increased amounts of incident. Most cops i still know from the force want nothing more than tighter laws and better definitions for the ones out there pertaining to existing ones.

Here in New-Brunswick Canada we need to have a license. the differance with the 49cc is that the license can be obtained at the age of 14. also insurance and helmets are needed wich i think is fair for the sake of the riders safety and other riders.

Mopeds, less that 1.9 HP and top speed of 30 max need a standard driver's license. Motor scooters 49cc up to 124.9cc, if more than 1.9 HP and if top speed is over 30 mph require an special "L" endorsement. Over 124.9 cc, require a Motorcycle endorsement. All two wheeled motorized vehicles except motorized bicycles require Title, plates, and insurance.

i live in louisiana and here you are required to have a license if the bike is above 50cc. However, no one will insure you if you don't have the endorsement on your license.

Type in your State followed by "moped laws" ie: Michigan moped law in your explorer window and see what comes up. Fight the ticket.
Im in Michigan and everything 50cc and under here is considered a moped, requiring no helmet above the age 19 and no insurance. Just a regular drivers license is required if your over 16 but you do have to wear a helmet until 19yrs of age.
You do have to have it registered and have a decal on the rear fender though which is cheap.
a zuma is 49cc is 2.9hp so your not breaking any laws bcause it isnt a motorcycle (in Michigan anyways)
