I have been thinking of getting a scooter. But i dont know why. Maybe im board or somthing.
The question i would like to ask, is why do you ride scooters? It just cant be the gas mileage, because there are 250cc road bikes like Honda reble, Kawasaki 250r that gets 80mi to the gallon, I know i have one. PLus it goes 100mph. And i think of them as scooters
The only other thing i can think of is that you dont have to pay inc. At least you dont in my state , as long as its 50cc under.
I do like to ride minibikes, Is that the fasanation of it all?
what is the reason you ride a scooter? I would like to here honest opinuns. Man!! , i cant spell anymore. o_o

im a minibike fan too, just sold mine actually. Ive also got an '84 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI that im modding and hopping up. I like Austin Minis among other things.
Thats not to say i dont like bigger bikes, but for me its about minimalism.
i like to think that i really dont need more than 50ccs to get me to work/school/play. i like the idea of a small bike, that cruises 50mph comfortabley gets great mileage. modding them is fun, and there is a certain "scooter comraderie" that comes with having such a vehicle.
obviously you CAN get good mileage on a motorcycle as well. But scooters are just so fun/cheap/easy to mod. They also require a lot less from your local government!
man, i cant wait to get on a scooter again!

i have a friend trying to talk me into his Kawasaki Ninja 250R right now....says it gets 50mpgs....thats no better than my TDi and my TDi seats 5 and has leather, sunroof, 6disk changer...
I guess the reason I want a scooter over a bike is for the quick on, quick off, sporty feel without the speed of the bike. I had a 600cc bike walk away from me in a turn and I lost half my ear. I'm not looking forward to a repeat of that.

i wouldnt mind a bigger bike for longer rides (like on the highway) but all i need is a scooter for round town, that and i dont have to screw around with shifting when crusing round town light to light, that and of course the cheap factor comes in
maybe im just obsessed with having small powerful motors/cars/bikes, like the car in my avitar (94 Toyota Starlet Gt Turbo, 1.3l dohc turbo, weighs 1800lbs, stock turbo boost setting is .9bar, 160hp, can swap to a t3/4 hybrid kit for $4k and can be boosted to 29psi on stock internals to nearly 300hp out of a 1.3!)

Yes , I too think i have bitten buy a mini carton like things, I sold my street legle mini bike . I had a Z 50 or monkey bike. I really liked going down dirt roads with it and just putting around. I have been also looking at the Zap car, i think that is nice little car to mod, put a Hayabusa motor in it or somthing.
I think you guys are right, I just could not figure out why in the hell i wanted a scooter when i have motorcycles . And the wife also wanted to know,( what the hell is wrong with us males ). Mini bikes, mopeds, dragracing, gocarts, quads, Modding your lawnmower taking it to the derby to race lawnmorwers . She says, she just does not get it. somtimes i dont ether , I just know i like it for what ever reason. I quess she is right, we are all crazy

Its funny, I got a moped when I was 12 just for fun since I didnt have a license. Then when I got my drivers license I got rid of the moped and got a civic and drove that until about last summer when I got a Vento Zip. Now I am wanting a sportbike. I am gonna still ride the scooter just for shock value around me but I just want a bike that can do 110 easy. I'm thinking I'll get either a Katana 750 or a 600 Ninja.

I think your right about that, Im tired of hopping up big things like motorcycles and such. Its less stressfull hopping up small stuff, plus its more injoyable. plus if something breaks, it dosnt cost that much to fix. :D

Speedy what ever you do dont get a katana, around here we call them a can a tuna. They are slow bikes, the 600 ninja will walk away from them. As far as why we ride scooters, they are fun and cheap and I like to see peoples faces when you go by on one wheel

I started off with a broken '85 Honda spree when I was 15. Fixing it and flying down hills was a blast, especially at a blistering 35mph! :D
Unfortuntley the spree was illegal and I finally got a half a grand ticket once I was stopped..
About half a yr later I found a guy selling the zip and just knew I had to get that. Once fully legalized I was back on the road once more, only now doing 50mph w/out hills! lol
Getting a bigger bike would be nice, but the shock value of a 50cc scoot flying at 50+mph is better.

I allways had a scoot for convience, easy on and off. You can fit more on a scooter than motorcycle too. A bag of groceries in the basket and loads and loads of suff between you feet on the floorboard. Also the shock value, it's fun blowing by bigger bikes doing 50+.

I used to ride a 1200cc bike on the streets that was mod. for the track. I used to get on the highway and do 135 mph with a gear to go. I'm done proving anything to anyone (like that I'm stupid). My scooter has nothing to prove and only a fool would challenge it. If some one beats me they just think "no s**t it's only a scooter" and if I beat some one they think "holly s**t I just got beat by a scooter?" Either way, they look like a looser. The scoot also has limitations that tend to bring us down to reality and sometimes protect us from ourselves. So I guess what I'm saying is: If you put an A-hole on a super cool sport bike he's still just an A-hole but if you put a super cool dude on a little scooter the scooter just gets that much cooler. Oh yeah, and it gets really good gas mileage.

I had a 1990 Yamaha Radian and I am the first to admit it was too much bike for me as a beginner learning in heavy Los Angeles street traffic.
I am happy with my angry little bee. I am not overwhelmed by the tasks it takes to get her down the street. Her twist-n-go action is perfect for me as a beginner. I am not half as frightened by the scoot as I was by the bike.
Another plus? She parks in the space with the Jeep. I am allowed one parking space at home. She fits nearly under the Jeep's spare tire.
Another BIG plus? People really look at her. I get thumbs up from people. Nods from other bikers...cycle or scoot. Amazing how 50cc can get so much attention.
Speed? I'm not into speed anymore. The Jeep does 10mph or less when it's out performing his sport. It doesn't take speed to get a rush.
And filling up on $2.55 was really a grand thing.

I got a scooter because it was cheap and easy. I didn't have to get a motorcycle liscense and I don't have to insure it. Sure I'll get myself a real bike eventually, once I have money to throw around. Scooters being so fun to get around with is just a bonus for me.

"Real bike"!?

Real bike= A motorcycle. Something I would need to insure and all that jazz. Funny thing though, I originally planned on getting a motorcycle after my scooter but now I I'm considering getting a larger scooter that I would register as a motorcycle. I like the scooter life a whole lot more than I expected.

scooters are "real bikes" too they are motorized 2 wheeled vehicles, just because you dont have to insure it doesnt mean its a real bike, i dont need to get insurance in my state till i go over the 600cc limit,
so would you say that a 250cc Ninja isnt a "Real Bike' because its smaller displacement than a ZX6R or Gixxer?

i dont need to get insurance in my state till i go over the 600cc limit,
in Florida, there is no limit, you DO NOT need insurance (unless the bank owns it with you)

yeah, I wasn't trying to step on your toes hector, but you are one of us now, you can call your scooter a scooter or a bike and we understand, the ...outside people...the...others may not understand what we find in all of this, I just tell them "its a scooter thing", but i absolutely hate when a scooter is made fun of and called a "moped" or when people think of scooters, they think of those crap boards with weed-whacker engines on them, or the 25mph $800 crap scooters that pep boys sell. I used to own a moped, and that was nice, but theres a big difference between these "scooters"

I think it's best that anything on the road that can do damage to another vehicle or person should be insured. Yes, I know it's not a popular idea; especially with the younger generation who are usually a little more financially challenged. But some day YOU might just git hit by something and even if it's a scooter or a "real" bike or a car it's gonna mess you up. I personally have insurance on my scoot incase I injure someone or myself. Because eventually, we all make mistakes. It also makes scootering a more responsible and thus "legitimate" mode of transportation in the eyes of the general public. Just a thought.

Uh Oh! I love calling my weed-whacker a scooter.....uhm.....I mean my scooter a weed-whacker. This girl at work one day refered to my scooter as a weed-whacker and I thought it was hilarious. I actually think it's part of the appeal. I don't want everyone understanding why I like riding a scooter. It makes me mysterious (which often times is missunderstood for being dorky, which reminds me...). I actually want to make up some novelty t-shirts and sweat shirts and sell them to scooterists. Things like: "0-30 in just under 2 minutes and not a weed left standing". Or, how about: "Revenue from petroleum supports terrorism, obviously I DONT". Oh, and one of my favorites: "Mopeds Have Pedals, Scooters Have Dorks, I'm Obviously A Scooter". I mean; let's face it, it's really hard to poke fun at someone who dosen't mind poking fun at himself. Oh I almost forgot, How about: "If you can read this, the other dork fell off". Now that's funny...Ha...ha.....ha....

lol nice, would be nice to see those ideas come to life! I just wish scooters were as big in this country as in others, though we're getting a headstart on it, like cattle the rest are sure to follow, then I can charge dumb rich kids lots of $$$ for simple mods once I learn what I'm doing, lol.

_-_-_-
Why would you want to rip someone off that is trying to enjoy scooting as much as the rest of us do? Just because they are mechanically challenged, too busy to work on their own toys or simply don't want to get dirty doesn't mean they are willing to stroke a blank check for someone else to do it.
Example: I don't change my own oil- why? I can get it done for $16 with my tires rotated, washer fluid topped off and interior vacuumed. I don't think I could find the supplies for under $16 not to meantion my time spent doing it.

Here in California you have to get insurance for anything that doesn't have pedals. And you have to get a license. I will be getting an M2 license which means I am limited in cc size. M1 can drive any motorized bike.
And pavement makes no distinction between "real bike" and scooter when you bellyflop on it at 35mph.

I had a blast on my Zuma for 2k mi.
Then I got a Majesty. Altho it's great for a trip to the grocery store, it keeps wanting to blast down country roads. Oh, Yes.
Ummmm.......
(The speedo touched 95 on a 150 mi. trip into the hills after work last night. I passed 3 cars and 2 semi dump trailers...all at once. It's not really about speed - most motorcycles could go faster, but I'm riding within my limits, and, for the most part, within the speed limit, looking for the twisties.)
