In this picture you can see that some of the gasket covers part of the transfer port (not good) Use a razor or x-acto knife to trim it back. Gasket matching is that simple! The exhaust gasket MUST be done as well.

in this photo, I polished the exhaust port. I use a dremmel with pieces of 3m scotch brite pad on the end, works great. The transfer ports can be done also, but not to a shiny finish like the exhaust.

Blueprinting is making the pieces look like they are drawn on CAD. Casting lines, imperfections in the surfaces, and rounded corners are some common areas to be addressed. In this pic this rounded corner needs to be sharpened. Also down in the tranfer port, there are alot of surface imperfections that need to be smoothed out. A stone bit on a dremmel works well. Then the scotch brite and your all set!

Lennox is gasket has to be perfect i made one for mines!!

whats happends if the gasket is covering Ports!!

Thanks..

if a gasket is covering a port, it is restricting the air/fuel flow, or exhaust flow.

Would it slow down the engine speed some what when i Trottle its seems to Gasp a little bit for air!!! :)

you would be suprised at the ill effects!

Hey Lennox so it seems like you have teh same CM Racing kit that I just recieved. What kind of gaskets came with the kit?

I got a base gasket and a round circle gasket that fits in the little groove on the cylinder head are those the ones you have or is there supposed to be another type of gasket for the cylinder head?

Thanks.

I may need to polish this up, and add it to the how-to's

Have you tested it out? I hope thats not your first cylinder head job, on a cylinder that will be used. It takes years sometimes to get good at internal engine work.

I think you may be confused!!!

Where did I say I did a head job?? This info is for blueprinting, polishing ports, and gasket matching. These things merely bring the "internals" to spec.!!!!

Now, if you are talking about decking a head and re-designing the "squish" band, or adjusting the port timing by enlarging/heightening the ports then yes it does take some knowhow (usually computer software decides) ;)

some good tips lennox most ppl overlook details like this.

Port polishing counts as headwork, right? lol.

again, I think you are confused... there are no ports on a 2 stroke head.... Are you getting Crotch Rockets(4 stroke) and Scooters (2 stroke) confused??? 4 stroke heads DO have ports!!!

lennox i think he is thinking about you porting and polishing the exhaust port since our 2 strokes just have the dish in the head.

lennox.I think your how to's are great...I think our members ..no matter how new.... should understand that the fuel /Oil mixture should have a smooth transfer from the intake ...around the Crank and Into the cylinder...I..... doing a case-apart "Crank on the Floor" Rebuild Had a chance to see how rough my casting was..a dremel on the rough Edges helps a lot....................I was careful not to take too much off...I just kept the edges smooth..and kept the fuel path in mind..There was a lot of "Flashing" to grind off......Now I cant help the Stroker folks..I think there is a lot more metal to take off..I hope you have Air tools!! ;)

ooops wrong thread..Anyway... it's common sense when assembling a 2 stroke that any excess gasket material is in the way and impedes fuel flow....this is a 'DUH"....Get your exacto knife out and make it match....On my Derbi I already saw where a "Universal" gasket (For both air and Watercooled) is bridging a spot..and needs to be trimmed to be the right gasket. speaking of gaskets... how hard is it to get a "original" airsal one? Mine got eaten when I took the cylinder off...

I'll probably just buy some paper material gasket and cut it... ho hum...
