Well, this has been going on for a while, and a buddy of mine had the same problem on his scoot, i'm looking into fixing it now. When I hit the electric starter the gears grind like no other, it used to only do it when the scoot was cold, now it does it all the time, any idea on what it is? Anyone experienced this problem before?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Sounds like the starter motor is going bad. It might be one of the teeth on a gear has broken off and is grinding up in there.

The actual starter itself is not the cause, I have tried replacing that with a brand new unit and it did not fix it. I'm guessing its the gears behind the variator, but was hoping someone on here had this problem and knows exactly what i need to replace.

O well if you think its the gear thingy behind the vari take off the vari and the big electric starter gears and the thing that gets thrown out to start. gently pull the thing with the little springs and weights in it an see if anything has come out where it shouldnt have. Sorry if this sounds confusing but its really not that hard to do.

If you pull the vario, you can see the gears. It can be a few different ones. From the starter to the smaller "mid" gear, or to the ring gear. Either way, you"ll be replacing two of them.
