For me, it was because my arthritis (RA in both knees) makes riding a crotch rocket or a big ole' cruiser too hard.

My wife and I chose scooters because she has wanted to get a motorcycle for a long time, but since neither of us has ever ridden anything before I thought we would be better off learning with scooters. We went with the Milano 150 ccs so we could take them up into the foothills and mountains near our home without having to modify 50 cc models to get enough climbing power. We love the fun and freedom of being able to take off and ride on Fridays while the girls are in school and we are out of work.

My wife and I each work only a few miles from home. I decided to move to two wheels. Selling one car and saving gas money was like earning an extra paycheck. I originally looked at motorcycles, but I really liked the fact that I can park anywhere I want, and get away with a few things that might be frowned upon with a larger bike.

MY CAT wanted me to have one!! HEHE :)

I like the look of them rather then riding a bycycle...

Practicality, I live in a small town with slow speed limits.
I live two miles from work. I also liked the project Idea of the scoot I got
Great for saving money too. Who needs a 300 dollar truck payment plus a hundred for gas?

I'm a student in a pretty big city........... scoots are cheap, reliable, and convenient. College, my lady friends place, local malls, movies, ect ect are no more then 10 miles away. And, just gotta luv the life style guys! :D

my 4 year old couldn't reach the foot rests on a full size motorcycle.... Set him on the scooter and we were golden...

Fit like a glove so figured why buy a big bike... If ya know what I mean...

FUN

I had a 250CC when I was younger and going thru mid-life right now at 32.. J/K!

Just for fun- bunch of us got them to cruise around town on. We ride to noplace and slowed our lives down some instead of just driving to get to point A-B we just ride to ride and think of new places to go.

The wife and I both work about 1 mile from our home and starting up two
cars to go 1 mile is hard on them. Fuel price's continued increases pushed
us up to the plate and the fun factor sealed the deal. We've both ridden
larger motorcycles before but didn't want to go to all the expense of them
again. The scoots get us to and from work on the cheap and our car and
truck are saved for longer trips and weekend fun.

Indy

I got one because I lived in Italy for two years and fell in love with them. I have wanted one for a long time, but finally went out and did it when fuel prices increased.

First and most of all to pick up chicks and better gas milage don't have to buy a parking pass at college. I'm also a fool for classic styles.

I also wanted a scooter to pick up chicks, but Elise wouldn't've gone along with that idea!

Ok, my scootering past goes along these lines and why I'm in to scootering. I’m 29, born in Pittsburgh PA in 1974. Graduated in 92 from the U of MD with a degree in Photojournalism. Upon graduating I got a job through a friend as a cop, till I had a motorcycle accident that busted my knees up. Got a settlement, and married to my wife, Elise.

We live in central Maryland where I’ve worked a freelance photojournalist for close to eight years now. I joined Provoscooter in late July of 2003, and was appointed moderator in May of 2004 to the old forums becoming head moderator under Erich when the new boards opened. I bought my current scooter (there’s been a few before!) a silver 03 Yamaha Vino Classic in the end of August 03. From May until August I worked a local Adams County YMC dealership just across the line in Franklin County, PA about forty minutes from my home.

Matt Owens, a friend of mine for ten years, (an old crank) who I knew from when he lived near DC and rode sport bikes with is, the owner hates scooters and scooterist more but with the recent insurgence in popularity asked me if I’d like to learn to physically service the scooter a couple days a weeks so he hand his mechs can stay focused on the motorcycles and ATV’s.

I left the dealership in August because Elise wants a kid and wants me home more often. In June before I left I bought a used Bajaj Chetak, which I sold two months later for a profit (because Matt sold it dirt cheap to get rid of it.) and bought a jet ski, which I sunk after a few weeks. Elise is still sore since she thought the Chetak was hers! And now I sleep on the couch until I get the fine paid, and the insurance dealt with!

Elsie comment added at her request:Yeah he sleep on couch cause he watch too much TV, mah!

My wife and I are going through our mid-life crisis (38/33). I rode big bikes and dirtbikes from age 12 to age 22. We didn't want the committment of the large bikes (high insurance, high price, etc.), so we decided to try a scooter. We purchased a used Honda Elite 80. Shopping for the second scoot now - I would like the Zuma, but should probably buy a 125 Vino due to my size and weight. The price of the 125 keeps me at bay, though. Perhaps a Vento Xenon or Phantom.

My wife said she feels like a kid again while zipping along on the 80.

I rented one for a scooter rally and now I'm hooked. Going to the store is no longer a burden. Now if I can only get my wife hooked!

Yeah man, thats the worst! My lady friend won't touch the scoots. Bought a mojito with a huge seat so we can ride together and be a sick ass scootin couple. Took her out for a spin around the block and she flipped out! Ok, so I was goin 40 in a 25mph zone... but the baby does 65mpg easy, couldn't help myself! :D

That's Matt feelings too, he's been on my to get an R6 for a while, but I don't think my knees could take it, and I suspect Elise would get pretty mad if I buy anything else for a while. She is nagging for a new car, and she won't go along with the Silver Wing argument!

My wife will ride on the back with me but she won't let me buy one for her.

I bought my Vino because I'm too young to get a streetbike or a car (but then again I'm too young to ride a scooter, lol), and because I love em'. Going 60 on a scooter is just so fun!

Three years ago, I was living in a smaller city, and riding a Honda Shadow VLX, which is was a perfect fit for me. I'm 5' and had the shocks lowered to touch the ground and that bike was heaven. There's nothing like riding country roads and smelling the alfalfa or mint fields, and feeling the cool of irrigation streams next to the road...

Then my partner-in-crime & I moved to the Seattle metro area.

I sold the bike, because my little Suzuki 4-cyl can't haul anything, and the moving truck couldn't haul either car or motorcyle behind it. For three years, I pined for that bike, but felt afraid of getting another, because of the awful traffic and inattentive drivers. Once we moved close to my work and school, I couldnt wait any longer, but couldn't find another bike that fit my body. After hearing about a friend who was selling their Vespa due to impending parenthood, I decided that a scooter would be solution. Unfortunately, they wanted $6000 for the Vespa- TOO MUCH! So I went to a motorcycle superstore after researching online, and paid $2300 tax, title, license & helmet for a 2004 Vino.

Also, I bought it because there'e no such thing as "employee parking" where I work, and all street parking is impossible after 7am, and with the scooter, I can park on our car lot.

I have wanted a scooter since I can remember. It's the ultimate toy that doesn't put a dent in your wallet! I want to get a new car (Mini Cooper S) but since that would run me about $30K, I opted for a less expensive toy, the 2004 Yamaha Vino Classic, while I save money for a house. Now that I live in a neighborhood where I can actually use a scooter, I've got one and have been loving every minute of it!!! I love going to the grocery store, to the coffee house, to the bookstore, etc. Any excuse I can get just to ride it is perfect! :D

I'm enthralled with the fact a piston the size of a quarter can propel me at 60 mph. Well... 50+ since I've gone with the red Malossi rollers.

Here's the engine I use at work. It's a GE CFM-56 and produces 22,000 lbs of thrust at sea level on a standard day.

Lennox

22k thrust..wow... imagine how fast my Zuma would go with that strapped to the back! o_o :D

LMAO, the other way around for me!! My husband won't let ME buy a motorcycle!

Partly that, and partly because my work commute is less than 4 blocks and I wanted a fun way to get to work and back.

I bought my moped for many reasons, Cheap on gas , No insurance, easy find parkings, daily rider, and go moped cruises :yippy: beat the traffic jams :) I brought extra moped parts in trunk, roller weights, spark plugs, jets, drive belt and hand tools.

cause i needed something to get around with and there are a billion reasons a scooter is better than a CAR anyday...

though there are a couple reasons a car is better, well, two, you don't freeze your ass off as much and you can carry bigger heavier stuff/people...
