Hey -
I purchased the Yamaha rear basket for my '05 Zuma and while it has arrived the additional "replacement hardware and cable ties" has not and is on back order. Does anyone know exactly what the replacement hardware is and is it totally necessary to install the basket? (I have plenty of cable ties) The dealer parts guy doesn't think I need it but something tells me I do. Thanks.

when I ordered mine it came with cable ties, they really don't work very well. I went to my local hardware store and looked around the bracket/shelving isle and found a couple of 6 inch flat bars with holes in them. One top, one bottom with the rear rack and basket sandwiched between and bolted them together. You can even try like a couple of 2, 2 1/2 washers in the 4 comers bolted together the same way.

I use cable ties and they work fine.

If I have to move my scoot out of the way for whatever reason I have a tendency to grab it by the basket while it's still on the stand and slide it. So, I was allways breaking the cable ties. Back in the Day Honda and Yamaha used to give hardware with the baskets but now give the ties because it's cheeper.

Come on guys!
What ever happened to the good old fashioned milk crate?
It's classic!
My crate read "Carnation".
I crossed out "car" and wrote "scooter" in big letters!
SCOOTERNATION!
DO IT!

you can also get some hose clamps to hold down the classic milk crate.

Turns out the basket comes with 4 metal bars and nuts/bolts to attach to the rack. The "replacement hardware" is another rack to replace the stock rack and perfectly fits the metal bars. I was able to finagle the basket to fit the stock rack (which is pretty puny)although I could only use 2 of the bars for clamping. I secured the rest of it with cable ties. I will probably replace this set up with the other rack when it finally comes in. I guess I just couldn't stand putting a milk crate on my new ride.

My friend used a PE locker basket on her Vino (she got it from a school that bought new lockers)
I used nuts, bolts, and brackets from a hardware store to put it on.
She has a bad habit of lifting the basket to set the bike on its' stand.
After about a year, one of the little wires of the cage broke.
She could not figure out what the rattling noise was!
It's still on there!

I use a cargo net...stores under the seat and there is no messy basket to upset the beautiful lines of the scoot when you are not hauling a load.

The cable ties work fine...disabuse yourself of grabbing the basket...grab the grab rail (D'OH....) instead.
