Here are a couple photos of the new rear shock I installed. I found it on ebay for $18 shipped. It gives me a substantially better ride quality with my 206 lb butt on the scoot. The MDI shock is about 30mm longer than stock, the coils are .5mm thicker and the piston is 1mm wider. I was able to just switch out the old for the new, with a little bit of WD40 on the top bushing and it squushed in place, but I herd others have had to reuse the top bushing off the stock shock. Same bolts and sizes. The MDI has adjustable coil setting but I found the bottom setting was fine. Also note: people with upgraded tires state the scoot is unstable on the center stand, because of the extra length of the MDI shock and height of the tires. With my stock tires I have no problems on the center stand.

I had no issue with my new tires and the center stand either. Anycase looking good there.

Do you know anyone other than the Yamaha dealer can install the MDI shocks? No, I am not mechanical incline, but I am a good helper if necessary. Thanks

i'd like to purchase that shock but my stand just barely works right now with the larger michelin s1 tires i'm running, so i'm kind of afraid that 30mm will be too much.. then what do i do? prop the bike up against the house? can i somehow lengthen my stand?

I have herd of people buying motorcycle "Kick" stands and have it lean like big motorcycles and I have herd of people welding box tubing (steel) to the end of the center stand to give it extra height.

i have a feeling i'm gonna have to do that then... cause my michelin tires are pretty much touching the ground right now with the bike on the stand... maybe a 1/4" off, it's hard to say as i usually park on my gravel driveway, which doesn't help. i should have the new shock any day now, i can't wait!

okay so i put the new shock on tonight, super easy, didn't even need the wd40, just a little elbow grease, and yep, my stand is no longer functional, well, just barely.. the bike is in my house right now on pretty level super thin carpet just hardly standing up, but on not perfectly even pavement, a gust of wind would blow her over...
