View Full Version : Zuma = BW?

Scooterless... for now!

Hey guys & gals,

You have been an amazing reference source in my hunt to eventually buy a scooter. I am right now considering the Vino/Vino Classic, the Honda Jazz (P.S. thanks for the awesome comparison thread!), and what I assume is the Yamaha Zuma.

That brings me to my first of a couple of quick questions about the Yamaha Zuma. Is the Zuma the same as the BW (I live in Canada and one site mentionned that they were the same thing). Second, what is the Zuma's top speed (stock)? Also, I'm definitely a fan of riding with a partner so is it worth getting the Zuma/BW or will the Vino with a buddy seat work just as well (I kind of like the Vino's look)!

I appreciate any and all input!!! Thanks!

Zuma is BWs, one is US (Zuma) and one is Canadian. I am also from Canada.
BWs is more practical for two people. Also, one thing to consider is the Vino has both drum Brake at front and back, so braking will become an issue when you add more weight or speed.

BWs can go 70km/h max stock, mostly like you will find around 65km/h.

I have a 2004 Zuma which is the same as a BW and I bought it over the Vino because:

disk brakes in the front which accounts for about 75% of our stopping power

2 people can ride on it- Vino buddy seat was not out when I bought it

I wanted something more "manly" looking- not in to the retro look.

Dealer support IN MY AREA for Honda is nill- could be better where you are.

Jazz is a 4 stroke (known as the Metropolitan in the USA)- 4 bangers are no good in such small CC range IMHO.

Gone play Devil's advocate here (In other words, Mark, Jered, hold yer horses!) I got the Vino, because I liked the retro look, and wanted more top end speed. Also I did not care for the dirt bike look of the Zuma, figured if I want something that looked like a dirt bike or ATV, I'd buy a dirt bike or ATV. If I wanted a crotch rocket looking scooter, I would have gone with an Aprilia.

Personally, I found the Zuma too hard to service when I was at YMC, and now come to find out that staging the Zuma to move beyond 48mph is more than a work in progress.

I went with what was available and not a long wait list or horrible shipping costs...

Ya know! :p King

I was at work, so I don't always get all the time in the world to hit every thread, these days as I had when we just started up last month. When I make my rounds on here, I hit the NEW POSTs then open up a window for each thread, and there are times that if there are twenty new posts, I might miss one or two. (Try keeping up with twenty opened windows at a time)

I hadn't mean to to say too hard, but harder to service, than the Vino.

what was harder? Tell me what was harder, and I'll tell you what you did wrong.
