I am seriously looking at buying a Venice LX. As an informed buyer (and a guy who's cheaper than heck) I like to know dealer invoice so I can work them for the best price. I used Cyclebuy.com for invoice info on a couple of other manufacturers, but TN'G is not on that site. Where can I get dealer cost infor for the Venice LX? MSRP is 1695. Thanks!

Hopefully some TNG owners can post what they paid to help you out but for the most part scooters in general have a very low profit margin...

i wouldnt get a venice. i would just get a zip or other vento. the lx has had problems on the forums before. 1695 is a steep price when you can get a new gt5 for 1575, an older zip for 1095, a new zip for 1275, or a triton for 1375. all of those are w/ free shipping.

you can ask for the dealer invoice at the dealership... tell them you want to know their costs...

I know the yamaha dealers make around $200 on a scooter vino or zuma... the MSRP is $1899 they pay $1699 for it...

just ask if they are a good dealer they will tell you... if not, go somewhere else as they are probably trying to rip you off anyway...

I just got off the phone with the TN'G dealer and he said I could have a new Venice LX for $1300. Wow, that sounds real cheap to me since MSRP is 1695. Now I am suspicious.

If they are local go down and check it out?

Could it be "brand spanking new" but be a 2004 or some thing like that. It is "new" but 2 years old as the 2006's are rolling out right now..

scooter sometime don't have markets everywhere... or the dealer gets kickbacks to sell them... rebates, etc...

Go look at it... if it's "NEW" then it'll have a warrenty... so who cares... just my thoughts...

yea its kinda like with a car, if it is an older model but still new he might be dropping the price to get rid of it.

there's a dealer here selling a "new" (demo model) '05 Venice for $1300, with warranty and everything. I'm thinking of buying it...

You guys are lucky. The local dealers here in the SF Bay Area are not budging on their prices for Venices. Anyone have any hookups around here?

I bought my TNG LS49 ('04) for $1300, and yes it was so they could just get it off the lot, but it is working fine. I was down at the dealer today checking out a 70cc upgrade and they gave me a number for a cycle shop that will dyno the scooter and give me some idea's on what would be good mods to make it quicker. I wanted a venice LX but turned it down because it didn't quite go as fast as my LS and for the same price.

I had a dealer tell me the venice lx isnt a great quality. (and I quote) They said for someone as "informed" as me they wouldn't feel comfortable selling a venice to me. I would be looking at other manufacturers if it were me.

just curious-- did the dealer try to sell you something more expensive?? maybe a sales ploy?

I think the LX isn't using the same engine as the venice 49 or ls. The LX is using an engine made in a yamaha plant or approved or designed by yamaha or something, but you can't derestrict it so it only goes like 30-35mph or so. I guess they thought it would sell better in some states where you don't need a license if it goes slow and the yamaha name would give it some more selling power. Here, the scooter shop in downtown SF made TNG come in and replace all the engines with 2006 TNG engines (presumably similar to the 49 ones) because you need a license regardless here in Cali and the big selling point is that they can go 40-45mph while getting great gas mileage. If you look for a LX in cali ask about the engine, and use that TNG coupon.

hi,
let me clear up something
the venice lx comes unrestricted, us dealers are to put in the restrictors. the lx will go about 45 without any moding unrestricted.. the ones that only go 30-35 are restricted.

that 200$ off coupon offer will expire real soon..
if you want one go to the TNG site(tngscooters.com)
and download the "Back to school special" it's at the top of the home page

Hans,
What was the deal with the 2005 LX engines then? Are yours the yamaha ones or are they the normal TnG ones?

This is the first I have heard of the "bad motors" I am checking into it today.
my last shipment of scooters were made & assembeled
in China with the standard motor.
I am expecting 5 more next week these are assembeled in
N.C. usa. They may all be the samething. I will keep you guys posted.

Ok so here's what I found out
the motors in question were linani -yamaha
the problem was some componets were not up to the quality
needed or expected. the good thing is that TNG-CMSI
did the right thing did their best and fixed all the scooters that were not up to snuff. lots of other scooter mfgs seem to have problems also.
the current lx scooters made have a different motor mfg now and there are way less issues with these motors.
i think the lx is real peppy o_o
i just delivered one yesterday to a lady. i rode one scoot
a 4 stroke and she rode the lx. i was doing about 43
and she goosed hers and i was eating her exaust.

i purchased a new '05 venice last september at a local dealership for $1300...the dealer told me that the reason it is cheaper there is becuase most dealers that sell scooters put $100 on top of their mark-up for simple things like battery charge-up, etc. this dealership is a pretty small one and they keep their prices competitive since they are smaller than the others around...in the dead of winter, i've seen their signs advertise new scooters for as low as $1100, so i can't imagine the dealer cost being much lower than that.

The thing with the dealers around here (SF Bay Area), they charge about $200 for "freight and prep" so even with that $200 coupon it's still MSRP plus taxes and fees. At that price I'd rather get a Vino.

harry

just to fill you guys in
the freight costs for me(a dealer) to get a scooter from TNG's
N.C. assembly plant to the Seattle area is about $125-140
including ins. with about $50-75 to decrate & prep. battery charge ,fluids, brake adjust, install the restrictor
( or not) we are 'sposed to road test the scoot for 5-8 klm, test all lights & stuff.
the decrate/& prep takes about an hour & 15 on a good day.
they are not gouging you if they are charging $175-200
so you see most of the dealer charges are about what it really costs.
employees, rent, ins. you know overhead, some costs are more from one dealer to another dealer. thats one reasion that dealers want as close to MSRP as they can get.

by the way do any of you get over paid for the work you do? i'm sure you don't think so, but if your a lawyer, doctor,
ceo, factory worker/teemster you must be raking in the $$$$( i hope you see my point) really i don't care what you do to make $$$$$$ or how much you make all i'm looking for is a happy customer

I hope you work hard to get and keep happy customers. My Venice came with a dead battery, poorly adjusted brakes and a too-low idle speed. I was pretty livid when they told me that "the batteries just don't hold a charge overnight." BS. The gave me another battery from another scooter, also dead. Then I made them give me a new battery and it holds a charge for over a week- in the winter. They would leave the batteries hooked up and never charge them. Rather than try to make it right, they blew me off. Don't do that. Other than that, you have a great product, be a great salesman.

Thanks Moosehead,
bad deal on that battery . people like that give the scooter biz
a bad name. sorry you had a un preped scoot. bummer that guy is your dealer. i'd look for another guy to do your warrenty work..
unless you've modded your scoot that is. :~)

Oilyhans, I realize you have overhead but as a consumer I'm just looking out for the best deal. No offense intended, just looking to save some money. Hard to justify forking out $1800 for a scooter when they were selling for $1000 earlier in the year. Plus, at the same price level with comparable Yamahas and Hondas it just doesn't compete.

Freight and set up for a yamaha are like 200 dollars more than the tn'g in downtown sf (comparing it to ggc) because the yammy dealer charges a higher labor rate. so you'd be saving about 500 over a yammy by getting the tn'g with the coupon. Also, the LX gives you way more. Front DISC BRAKE, for one. two person capacity. 3.5 inch ALUMINUM wheels. It is hardly even a fair comparison. Get yamaha 50 and you'll be complaining that you don't have these things, where Tn'G apparently checks their complaint box and answered it with the LX. I'm just mad that I have the 50 and not the LX (now that they changed engines). It really is in another class.
