Ooops- I screwed up and broke a screw.

Well I was trying to install a new exhaust pipe on my scooter and messed up. The screw broke in half as I was tightening it to the gasket of the pipe.

What is that piece called that is under the cylinder where you connect the exhaust with the two screws?? I looked at the yamaha vino parts blow ups and couldn see it--I think it is some iron or steel piece that attaches to the cylinder---maybe an exhaust port??

Can anyone tell me a way to get the broken part of the screw out of the hole, so I can attach my exhaust.

Thanks

sooznd.... to remove the screw, you should be able to get a flat head screw driver and get enough grip to thread the bolt piece out... I did the same thing...

The part where the exhaust connects on the cylinder? exhaust port? I'm guessing... just wondering why as it's not a "replacable part" you must replace the whole cylinder if it's damaged...

however the bolts that yamaha sends are grade 3 which are about as strong a pewter... I upgraded to grade 8 bolts... so they will never break in there... however you run a risk of damaging the cylinder easier!

if you can't get the bolt out with a flat head, you can get a file and file a slit (if you can reach it) so you can get a flat head to it... or get a screw extractor from sears... they sell a tool that looks like a backwards screw that goes from small to large... as you thread it in, it gets tight and backs the bolt out... you must drill a hole into the bolt to do this though so it doesn't expand and break the cylinder...

Jered -- thanks a lot for the ideas. I will feel defeated if I have to bring it in to the Yammy dealer.

I looked at the cylinder drawing on the yamaha site and it does not show this little oval -like exhaust port-it almost looks as though it is welded to the cylinder, definitely not a removable part, but seems like it should show up as part of the cylinder.

the screw part left in there is tiny, so I hope I cancut a slit and unscrew it.

thanks again---a project for Saturday. Today I took a a vacation day and thought I could easily get this pipe on , but no, this had to happen.

there is normally a lip when bolts break that you can get a flat head screw driver to grab enough to remove it... just make sure the cylinder is cold... and it will come right out... NORMALLY!

the areas to either side of the exhaust port where the threaded holes are, are "flanges". I don't think that helps the problem much though, does it?

speedy-- it's a tecnigas silent pro. I like the more traditional and less sporty look of it & it is supposed to give a slight performance boost.

But man, you should have seen the size of the restrictor in it! I will post a photo when I get home.
