View Full Version : bogs at takeoff

The other night when I was out testing the new green light trigger, one of the lights sensors wasn't responding, or it was just a timed light, so in an effort to trigger a sensor, I tipped the bike all the way left to the ground to get metal close to a sensor, and the carb bogged out and cut the engine off. It restarted fine, but now the takeoff bogs a little, it's not quite as punchy. It's not terrible, but I've definetly lost a little takeoff. One thing I've noticed with the Mikuni that I love is that it drips little to no oil/gas out of the airbox like the stock one did, so I didn't think it was a pool of oil/gas in the airbox that ran onto the filter element, clogging it, but I checked it anyways. It didn't seem stopped up from oil, and all I had was gunk engine degreaser to clean it with, which didn't do much for it. I then rinsed the degreaser off and reinstalled the element. I'm going to clean it with carb cleaner when I can get some, but what does everyone reccommend I check first? Should I clean the carb out while I'm at it? Thanks.

one more thing, the only thing I did differently is filled with premium. I a;ways run regu;ar, I was trying to see if it would help with what I thought was knocing, may have taken care of that, it was kind of this irregu;ar purring type sound at idle. I'm pretty sure I did fill it with 93 before the side tipping thing...

what your describing at idle sounds like the motor is scavenging, try playing with the air/fuel ratio screw. also, knocking happens at all RPM, not just at idle...although you might not be able to hear it at higher rpms cause of the pipe. how long have you been hearing this sound as knocking dosent take long to burn a hole in your piston.

haven't been hearing it very long, and I was thinking it was associated with my crank bearing wearing. I just checked the plug and its got sorta thick lack carbon on the one side, and the other side is blackish too, the center is lightgray and brown. Also the plug to it was kind of loose so I bent the tip so the plug wire would stay on tighter. I'll check the piston to see if it's being eaten.

nah nah, its not a slow nibble on the piston...its a 2 minute hole straight through. just try a new plug.
