I have noticed that my Kymco works really hard at ~ 40 + m.p.h. Has anyone else noticed this? Yes, my Kymco is derestricted.

I think that is pretty typical for 50cc 2-stroke scooters. Most won't do much over 40 stock.

From what I have heard Kymco People's once de-restricted can easily do 45-50 mph. A friend of mine has one and it does 50.
Are you certain you have done all the de-restrictions for that scooter?

I am quite sure it's totally dereistrcited. I can do 50 too. I just bought my girlfriend a vino and derestricted it. The Vino only does ~ 40 - 42 m.p.h., but it purrs all the while. Maybe I am just noticing a difference between the two scooters. My Kymco makes a hell of a lot more noise when I get up around 37 - 40 m.p.h. I guess I was wondering if I am working my enigine a lot harder than it should be worked. That said, I think my Kymco has more power overall than the Vino.

regarding the noise- could it be the difference in exhaust systems between the Vino & Kymco?
If you can go 50, then you have done all the de-restrictions. I misunderstood & thought you could only do 40.
My Vino tops out at around 41 mph & I am at a high altitude in colorado.

That could very well be. The Kymco kicks out a lot more smoke than the Vino.

Is the Kymco still under warranty? --if so, I'd bring it in for a check up just to make sure everything is ok with it.. If I were a bit taller , that would have been the scooter I would have gotten---I hear nothing but good things and have never read about any problems with them. If there is a yahoo group for Kymco's you might want to check there with peeps who have more experience with that particular scooter.

dont forget that the kymco does have larger tires. that will increase the top speed some.

soonzd - I am sure you could handle the Kymco. My gf is only 5'3, and rides it like a champ. She just liked how the Vino looks better.
I had the Kymco looked over and had a new battery put in at the beginning of summer. I actually never really noticed the noisiness at ~ 40 + m.p.h. before riding the Vino (which just purrs along).
In truth, I think the Vino is better for someone who doens't care much about power but wants a great little ride that will take you anywhere in a city.
But, I like the power of the Kymco - awesome! The larger tires do make a difference, I am sure.
