"Maybe you can help me get my wife interested!"
Thanks for the welcome guys. Marylandmark--where do you live in MD? I used to live there before I moved to Colorado.
From what I have read over 40% of scooters are purchased by women.
There are two Honda Metropolitan yahoo groups where the majority of posters are women. I think most women prefer the colors of the Honda Metropolitan--maybe your wife would like one of those---at least you could ride together.

the metro is "geared" for women... I looked at one as I wanted my wife to ride it, however the dealer wasted $300 over MSRP... So I bought my zuma instead...

Traditionally, scooters in general have always been geared towards women as an alternative to the image and style of a motorcycle. The sheer step-through midsection of a scooter was created with women in mind. (Think dresses) I had read last year the figures were 60% women, 40% men. 75% of all scooters were sold to collage students. Of course these figures are changing as the bi-decade scooter craze has started up again. (Which looks to die down again around the end of 05)

die down... Hrmm... Lack of parts, lack of members, lack of enjoyment...
Guess it's time to stock up on parts now... Eh?
Then again... trends are only that if people allow them to be trends... I for one will continue to enjoy my scooter even if no one else enjoys them...

I hear that I will still be riding a scooter long after the fad has gone and died.

Scooters are the rise this year, but it has always been one of those things that comes and goes, as soon as a 500 dollar segway comes out or something else comes out, you'll see more used scooters on eBay than new ones on sale.

I see that happening... then again give it 8-10 years and the scooter will be raging again and I'll have a "vintage" model!
yeah... a 2004 zuma Vintage! HEHE :D

I'm female, but don't advertise it here until now.
Gender shouldn't really be an issue.
We have enough things to argue about like gas octane.

HAHA
Charles County... Lot of stuff here.
Only problem is DC and PG County are moving further south towards CC, which moves me further and further south to get away from it all.
I am in LaPlata and own some water front on the Potomac River in Port Tobacco as well.
Soon as I sell my house I am going to build on the water.

there's no real argument in regards to gender rather than it would be nice to see a fair balance in the membership. The sad reality is that BBS tend to be leaned heavily towards men in a 25:1 ratio. I think if more women were active in the boards, more would join and become active to balance things out.

Oh ok, I know where you are. I'm in Frederick. Yeah thanks to Governor Spendending, there is so much constriction along the water that the nitrogen levels have pretty much wiped out the oysters, and the blue crabs are heading that way to. IO am by far a very conservative person, and far from the right winged environmental hippies as one can get. But I really feel for for the conditions that the watermen are now facing. Hell, who am I kidding, if the crabs all die out, then the cost of crab cakes will shoot through the roof and become as expensive as lobster!!! I only care about my food source!

I ate crabs 3 places this weekend-
ranged from $30 to $75 a dozen!
I don't get all you can eat- only buy by the dozen- MUCH better crabs that way.
Plus say 4 people go out- $25/each all-u-can-grub is $100. Same 4 go out and get Jumbos for $75/doz. Save $25 and take 3 crabs home.
My GF works at Captian Billy's in Pope's Creek, MD if you have ever heard of it. Well she is a teacher but works there so she has $$$ to buy me stuff.

We have enough things to argue about like gas octane. I don't think gender is an issue. I believe women can bring a different perspective to a scooter forum. This may be a generalization, but I have noticed that men are very interested in modifications to increase speed & performance. Women seem to be more into getting accessories to make the scooter more practical for everyday use.
It would be great to have people bringing a variety of ideas to this forum. I have modified my scooter with better tires and shock absorber, and am also interested in discussing practical and cool looking accessories for my scooter.
