I was driving my zuma yesterday, stopped at the bank and then when I got back on the highway and i could not get over 35 mph plus the motor was making a weird noise (not staying at a steady rpm). Since I had been procrastinating about putting new rollers in and doing the technomoto variator mod, I decided today would be a good day to do this. I open up my trans cover and I find a small round piece of metal in there. Next I noticed that one of my clutch pads is sitting farther (towards the rear wheel) out of the clutch bell. That leads me to two questions...
i) What happened???
ii) Whats the best clutch to replace it? Also should I get a new clutch bell to go with it or is stock ok???
Please help, I have to bring my scoot back up to school in a couple weeks!!

Oops, I forgot one more question, will the pulley behind the clutch need to be changed as well? is there even a performance one of these?

they do make performance rear pullies but you dont ned it until you are stage 3+ and in need of an overrange.

um, I totally disagree...
the zuma has a restrictor built in that eats belts! I HIGHLY recommend a rear pulley replacement at state 2! Maybe even stage 1 but I've never only had that on mine...

damn straight! LOL
no really, here is the thread I posted on it a while ago... http://www.provoscooter.com/vbull/showthread.php?t=2142&highlight=restrictor
the zuma has a lip on the inside edge of the torque driver pulley, and it causes the stock belt or kevlar belt to get a wear groove and then it will blow up (or shread) and leave you stranded...
I highly recommend upgrading the torque driver as it's a horrid design flaw that yamaha made! But apparently works fine when left stock...
I wasn't picking or being mean... just wanted to make sure that newer people on the forums know the issues with the stock torque driver.

you can see on page 2 in a post lennox made, what the wear is on the belt... which causes it to fail...
hope this helps some of you tuners out...
there are a couple of ways to fix this...
1. order a stock replacement torque pulley
2. order an overrange kit
both are available in malossi parts and both can be ordered through erich at www.provoscooter.com

Malossi torque driver - 1998 on - front half of rear pulley
is that the part that chews belts up.

No, one of the rivots holding the clutch pads in broke, so it was just "hanging down (it looked like the clutch bell was half-way off)
Also, what brands should I get???? I had to drive my brothers stock zuma to work today!!!
Are the ones on provo's site the best ones?

wow, everytime I get an answer (thanks guys), I get another question. What size 105mm or 107mm is stock?? Is there any performance (or cost) difference between the two?? And does Erich have both types?

I think erich only sells the metrakit one which is supposed to be easier to tune then the delta clutch and work as well...

Stock is 105. For a 107 you need a new clutch bell. Price should be the same.
