hey, i'm new here, but i've been reading the forums for a few months off and on now, and have been planning on getting the stage one for my '04 vino classic for some time now, as well as sava whitewalls... basically i'd like to do something to make the vino run faster, the 50 or so mph stated on the stage one sounds pretty good... i'm currently getting around 42mph..

i've also heard some negative effects, but there are none really officially listed, some people say it's due to improper tuning, or this and that... some say if you wanna keep it reliable, keep it stock. i do wanna keep it reliable, but i also want it faster, is this possible? how much reliability will i really lose if i upgrade to stage one or two? i don't know much about any of this, have no idea what the "snorkel" is, and would really appreciate any help i can get.

thanks,
devon

The reliability issue play partially on the way you ride. People who hop up the scooter tend to ride harder as well.

The biggest gremlin with the stage 2 is air leaks.

I would be willing to bet that NOBODY on here that did a stage 2 did a leak down test? This can and will cause all kinds of reliability issues.

Some of the problems with mods on a 50cc is that they are sort of tempermental. From one scoot to the next you may get different results putting the same parts on both. Some tuning is required. Mostly with the tranny. This is actually very simple as all you have to do is take apart the front pulley and put it back just as you took it off. BUT, if you dont know what end of a screwdriver is the business end, then you probably should have someone else do the mods for you.

Also, the "snorkel" is attached to the air filter box. It is usually a rubber tube that goes into the box and has a snorkel looking end that sticks out. This is there to silence the air intake some, but is also very restrictive. HOWEVER, you should only make this mod after you have gotten everything else sorted out. This mod could cause the engine to go lean (and bog out). Taking mine off caused it to go so lean that the engine would stall at 1/2 throttle. I had to experiment with putting washers over the hole to get just the right flow. (I didnt want to rejet since Im going with a 70cc kit next spring)...

okay, so you're telling me i should go ahead and do stage one, and if i do it right, i'll be fine, my scooter will be just as, or nearly just as reliable as it was before (i do drive it to work and back everyday... 30 miles or so total) and would like to continue doing so as it's the only vehicle i own...

it's not gonna die on me after 3000 miles or 5000 miles, or... dare i say.. 10,000 miles after i do stage one, as long as i take proper care of it, tune it right, use fully synthetic oil, etc etc? (its got 3600 miles on it currently)

someone please tell me this is true, and i'm ordering stage one today...

Do the stages... they are nothing but fun... just be careful and try to get it all in place as it supposed to be... it's when parts are not assembled correctly that you have problems... IE: my jet not being tight enough and causing me all sorts of troubles...
