I want to swap out the crappy oem tires for somethiing else. The local yamaha dealers wants almost 90$ to do it (an hour of labor plus taxes etc). Thats pretty crazy considering the tires are only like 60$. Is it that hard to break the bead on a 10" rim? I can get tire irons and go to a gas station to reset the bead, but I;d sure hate to order the tires then not be able to get them mounted myself.
Any other tips?

I did mine in my garage with "tire irons" you "could" use large screw drivers, but be careful not to damage the rubber....
it was pretty easy to do... a little windex or soapy water and they come off and on okay...
it took me about 45 minutes to get them on and off the rims (I think, it was a while ago)...
I had to take them to a tire shop to get them inflated as the gas station pump wasn't powerful enough and a small home compressor is a joke to do it with... you need a high PSI tank to to it...
I got the Kanda tires which were $28 each I think... and Very happy with them...

I am going to go with the Michelin Bopper tires..they are like a road/race type of tire. Almost a slick but still a little tread pattern to make it legal. I found a place to get them for $50 for both of them including the shipping...I am going to install them for next year. (waiting until I have the wheels chromed to get the new tires mounted on the rims).

yeah thats the same web deal I've seen. so it seems you can get these on and off with just tire irons then correct? Thats the last thing i need to do and probably the most critical.

That's how I did it... it wasn't to bad... I'd do it again with them... but would make sure to put a towel down to keep the rim from being scratched

I have the boppers too. Great tire. Total cost was $100 for the tires, mounting, and new brake pads.

just remember when you change your tires use some silicone spray so you can make the new tire bead more easy.

best thing to use is a plastic milk bottle, just cut a side out of it and its then a disposible rim protector. Sure worked for me :D

I found the stock tires the best to use, i now have pirelli sl26's and they suck in all conditions _-_-_- So don't buy them, I'm not sure if the Avon ViperStrykes are available in the usa but they are awesome :jesta:
