Whats up guys. New to the forum, and just bought a 2004 Zuma. I have a couple questions:
What are the roller weights? If you use lighter ones does that mean it will "shift" faster?
Also, I have read something about CDI boxes being replaced because they retard timing or something, and restrict speed, is this true?
Thanks

Lighter = Slower Rise, slower shift helps on hills and us fat boys like the lighter ones :D
Your weight and riding situation are gonna factor into the "shifting" equation more so than roller weights IMO. Roller weights are for finer tuning based on your situation.

I've been told by one in the know that the CDI change is for the old Zumas, and that all newer Zumas have unrestricted CDI's.

From, what I've gather from Erich and Jered's conversation part of the staging issues with the new Zumas is directly the result of the current CDI module configuration.

yep... I have stage 3 with some extra's and am getting a new CDI as the stock one retards the ignition working as a rev limiter...
I believe the old zuma's had the same set up except you could just unplug the CDI and it solved the problem... The new ones are not like that they don't run unless the CDI is plugged in...
There is also a problem with several of the aftermarket CDI's that they cause the kill switch to no longer work... The only way to shut the scooter off is to use the key... Which can be a good thing if you were to run neon's or a aftermarket part that needs an on/off switch...

Hey, I finally got my scooter yesterday...a spanking new, blue, 2004 Yamaha Zuma. I am totally impressed with this things speed and acceleration right out of the box. I also looked pretty seriously at the Vino but, I didn't want to have to deristrict the exhaust. The Zuma does not seem to be restricted as, like I said, it's got great acceleration and is pretty damn zippy!
I'm still getting used to riding it but I'm getting there. I've never really ridden scooters or motorcycles before so...there's a bit of a learning curve, especially when it comes to turning (okay, that was a terrible pun)..

So if i'm about 200 pounds, how would I figure out what rollers I need? Also, what did you guys do to "break in" your scoots? It says like 1000 miles break in in the manual, and on a scooter that's going to take a while.
I want to open er up!! :D

Everyone has their opinion on breaking in a 2-stroke, However, I broke all of my in the same way. I let them warm up before riding and I broke them in how I ride, some cruising, some WOT right out of the gate. Its all up to the individual.
My 2 Cents

Ditto-
Mine has 400 miles on it.
WOT since day 1. I start it up while I put on my helmet, ride first mile or so pretty easy and then however I feel like riding. I do try to vary the throttle even when I am running it WOT for the most part (I ride with a lot of Honda Metro's so have to do this or pull way, way ahead of them..)

Before every ride start your scooter up and let it idle for about 5 minutes and then when riding it dont ever try to reach top speed on it . Try to ride it al low rpm's i dont know it thats possible for a zuma. But try to let it sit and idle for about 5-8 mins every day

today I just passed 100 miles on my new Zuma!
I've been using 93 octane fuel, Yamaha 2 cycle injector lube, and PB B'laster Small Engine Tune Up in the gas @ 2-3oz./gal. After a while, I'm going to switch to Synthetic injector oil to get the maximum wear resistance.
My driving ranges from 10 mph to WOT, and I try to vary the speed every minute or so...
