Hello,
I been reading the forums a bit..
How can I speed the sucker up? I top out @ 30mph on flat ground and do about 20-25 going up hill. I read some post about doing the exhaust and variator derestrictions. Woulld this void the warranty on the scooter? Also where can I find some info on doing this.. Do you think my local yahama dealer would do this for me? Im on very tight budget and dont wanna spend alot of money on it yet.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Mike

It's pretty easy to do these mods... about 30 minutes for the variator derestiction.. and 1 hour max for the exhaust...
There are instructions in the how to area and both are located here http://www.provoscooter.com/vbull/article.php?c=6
this will get you to a good 40 mph or so...

BUt will it void my warranty?

Most likely yes, if it came from the dealer restricted, i would say it would void your warranty although those 2 mods will not hurt your scoot in any way.

The variator derestriction was actually easier/faster for me. There is more to take appart, but the actual mod is easy. I did both in a total of an hour with a friend. You will need pretty large channel locks though, so if you don't own one, get those while you get the sockets you need.

Also, the how-to describes a washer as the restrictor for the exhaust. On my '03 it was just very large tak welds. The method to remove it was the same though...hammer and screwdriver to chissel it out.

I was really afraid of screwing it up when i got my vino, and so i paid the dealership 40 bucks to do it for me. I feel like i should have saved my money, after watching them do it, i KNOW i could have done it, and i am not a guy who had previously worked on his vehicles much, if at all.
That's one of the great things about these scooters. You suddenly find yourself able to tinker with your own vehicle. They are great for learning how engines work, etc. And most things, you CAN do it. The directions on this site are dead on, and MAN, will you notice a difference. If you are still as wary as i was of doing it yourself, Most service depts. of yamaha dealers will do it for $40 or so...which leads me to believe, that no, it won't void the warranty.

ANYTHING YOU DO WILL VOID SOME PART OF THE WARRENTY! PERIOD!
that's the price you pay to perform...
if you derestrict the exhaust, you will probably void everything that spins faster... IE: engine, tranny, exhaust, emissions warrenty...
If you change anything it WILL VoiD some part of the warrenty...

don't hammer it... it's to easy to screw the pipe up...
I'd recommend a dremmel or such tool and then it should be pretty easy to accomplish... grind the weld down and your good...

Use a dremel tool or if you don't have one (like me), a very large drill bit and grind the opeing until it is as large as the pipe, but be careful you do not drill into the pipe.

thanks for your help.. I got it out finally. I did notice difference in the take off. Im doing about 35-38 now on flat ground and about 30 up hill :)
How much faster does it go by removing the governer?

How much faster does it go by removing the governer?
not nearly as dramatic as the exhaust de-restriction on my scooter--the difference was negligible, maybe 1-2 mph faster.

My Vino is derestricted. That's it. I top out at about 37-38 on a flat surface. Is removing the governor really worth it for 1-2 mph? Do others have more impressive results to report?

I top out at ~ 39- 40 mph with the governor washer removed. It may be because I live at a higher altitude- about 5000 ft. above sea level. I know some folks get 42 mph with their de-restricted only Vinos.

Yeah my friends vino did about 42 derestricted, i guess it depends on the scooter some a little faster then others even when brand new,and the same scooter, weight of the rider, and elevation.

fully derestricted i topped out at 42. now about 44 with my larger tires.
