Last week I ordered a Next R exhaust, clutch spring kit and lighter rollers for my '01 Zuma..

Today I went down to install it all (thanks for the suggestions about a strap wrench! It made all the difference).. and found that I was sent the wrong pipe. I was sent the pipe for the newer Zuma .. so I called and I'm having the correct one sent to me..

in the meantime, I figured 'what the heck', and installed the clutch springs and rollers without doing the exhaust..

I was expecting a mild improvement with doing these mods even without the exhaust.. but it is actually a DECREASE in accelleration and possibly even top end too. is that normal??

I put in the red springs (rated for 2000 rpm) and I'm not sure exactly what weight the rollers were.. I think 4.6grams

any suggestions appreciated!!!

Ya, its like a math equation. All the variables have to have value for the end result to = anything of value. Right now one of your variables has no value, i.e., your pipe.

so basically, the rollers and springs are detrimental to the performance without the pipe being on there?

Ya without the pipe, the engine will not "open" up quick enough for the stiffer clutch springs to benefit you. The new roller weights are installed to compinsate for the increased air flow which = quicker/higher rev/rpms - with the new pipe you have less of a delay to power band which is roughly 7000-7500 rpms i think (you would want your clutch to stall near powerband). So without the newpipe, you will loose performance. I would imagine you will suffer top end and most of all acceleration. However, I'm not a real scooter doctor, just mess with my own all the time.

Now that I re-read that I'm not sure I'm making any sense

LOL.. that's ok, I'm tired enough that I think it makes sense :)

I should have the new pipe by Wednesday.. can't wait to put it on and open this sucker up
