Well the cops put up one of those radar things on the side of a ncie flat road here, so of course I had to go see what my top speed really was. I have a Yamaha Vino, Stage I, over 3K miles on it, and I weigh about 180 lbs, and the radar read 45 when I went past it. The Speedo reads an approx. 50+. Is this right? I was a little dissapointed....guess I'm gonna have to get some bigger tires and a stage 2 :).

sounds about right, i have raced a few vinos on a 1\3 mile and even with a 70 and exhuast, varaitor, coil, gears, carb, clutch they have no chance only running in the low to mid 50s.

Hah, so now I'm gonna have to get S2's, that new clutch, a stage II, and an upgear kit to make myself feel better.

A lot of motorcycles have speedos that read higher than the actual speed, especially at higher speeds, probably due to 1) added wind resistance 2) insignificant tread wear that becomes significant due to more rotations at higher speeds. Getting a larger diameter tire will merely correct this, not make the bike go faster than the speedo reads as claimed by some.
however, if wind resistance is the problem, getting a larger rear tire may not help because it causes a loss of torque, which may be necessary to overcome the resistance of the wind.

The local cops have these around my house as well that I was going to buzz past a few runs on. Most of the time they are in neighborhoods and my scoot too loud to keep making high speed passes- giving us all a bad name. One time - when of course my scoot was in the shop- they had it on a 1.2ish mile flat straightway near a firehouse- would have been PERFECT to make some runs..
ALL speedos are off- just by how much. My speedo says 70MPH when I am only doing 62MPH (I think.. GPS mounted now but only in the low 60's so have not had a chance to ride yet..)
