I posted this message in the old forums and realized that the new forums are live now however so I will repost here too. I just bought a 2004 classic Vino today. Is it odd that it can barely get up to 30 mph ? Seems a little slow ? I only weigh about 175 ? Is this max speed unusual ? Even if it went 40 I'd be happier :)

PLease answer.

There are two restrictors in the Vino, one is a washer that is tack welded in the exhaust, and the other is in the multivar. Yamaha sells the Vino restricted so that it can be sold in most states in the US as a moped. YMC sees the Vino as being sold for the entire N. American market, but follows the US FedDOT regulations since they are stricter than Canada's or Mexico's. Logistically it would be cost prohibitive to manufacture a restricted and a non-restricted version of the same bike. The other option is not to sell any restricted scooter but this would force each dealer to restrict them in the shop. Since the profit margin is so small on the Vino already, even at fifteen minutes to restrict we’d loose money. At my dealership if we had to take the time to tack weld and install the CVT restrictor we wouldn't carry or order the Vino.

Dear Mr.ScooterNinjaBC,
The shop you bought it at should have offered to remove the restrictors for $100. I bought mine from VancouverYamaha and that's what they offered me.
I've heard that the shop in Richmond does the same.
But I ended up putting a Stage 1 on it after 3 weeks of owning it!

Got the restrictor removed today. The scoot almost left me behind when I first twisted the throttle !!! Incredible the difference. Its definately louder too. (Now maybe people can hear me coming.) the volume seems to changed erratically though - sometimes it purrs loudly and other times its like a roaring grumbler - and not in relation to how fast im going cause it seems loudest when I'm not even moving :)

Is this normal ??

SO there WAS something wrong with it ! Took it to work to have a friend look at it and he says yep that's way too loud then he looks at the mufffler and realizes they forgot to put the bolts back in !! It was almost dragging along the ground. Went back and they fixed it though. Purrs like a kitten again...
prrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

What a day in paradise :)
