Hello All,
My stage 2 is so loud you have to YELL to talk over it...something is obviously wrong!
1) I noticed that the gasket is broken between the exhaust pipe and exhaust crankcase manifold...I am able to slip an entire quarter in between the space.
1a)How can I replace this gasket? Can I cut one out of some gasket material? Or must I order a new one...part number anyone? The diagram from the Ymaha parts catalog does not look correct, the gasket should be diamond shaped?
2) Also, Erich forgot to send me the performance filter to go with the 19mm Arreche carb...he's sending now...so I told my mechanic to drill holes in the air filter box, to allow it to run.
Can both these things attribute to the noise? How loud are your Vinos?
Help me Provo Forum...you may be my only hope...transmission out.

The gasket will DEFINATELY give you a butt load of noise. That air filter you bought, is way way way louder than the stock box. As far as I understand, it is Ok to run the stock airbox until it is to small to fit on your carb (25mm and up or something like that) If you want quiet, fill in those holes in your airbox, and use the stock one. And by yourself an exhaust gasket or start shootin it with some liquid gasket (doesn't work to well, at least not for me). I'm running 2 exhaust gaskets welded together and an old carb gasket to keep the noise down.

What exactly is a Butt load? Is that sort of like being constipated?
Why are you recommending Liquid Gasket if it doesn't work well for you?
Some people..... LOL

LOL well yeah you can tell if the exhaust is leaking by listening at the exhaust outlet, or placing your hand close to the outlet feeling for leaks just make sure it's when you first start so you dont get burned. And yes the performance airbox makes it louder then the stock airbox,But personally i like the noise lol but mainly make sure your pipe flange is straight ,and replace your exhaust gasket with a new one if you have a leak.

I figured the 70cc would be louder, but is getting the S2 from provo really a SIGNIFICANT amount louder?...assuming you had nothing broken?

Loud is such a subjective thing. Yes... from what I hear the S2 is much louder.

Does anyone have a picture of the original gasket that fits between the exhaust and crankcase manifold? Is it diamond shaped?

you can make your own gasket. just go to the auto parts store and get a sheet of gasket material and cut it to fit. dont forget to get that copper gasket sealer too. if you do those things the noise of your bike will be cut to less than half of what it is now.

I am running an air filter right of my carb and it is LOUD- think if you cap off the air box you should be good to go. performance= noise most of the time. Fix the gasket before you mess some thing up..

my carb was louder than the exhaust on my stage 2... depending on the exhaust, the metal of the exhaust doesn't actually touch the metal on the cylinder...
the gasket squishes between the two and seals the holes...
so make sure that your not fixing something that isn't broken like I did for the first week I had my stage 2... I was trying to fix something that didn't need to be as there was no leak....

my exhaust recently broke completely off where it connects to the bike, it somehow got a crack in it that grew until it was like someone just sawed it apart, about the width of a quarter... but still held on by the brackets i couldn't tell until all of a sudden my vino was about ten times louder than usual, it was near painful, you could hear it 5 blocks away easy... so yes, that'll do it.
do what they said and cut out a gasket from gasket material. the reason you don't see that gasket in yamaha's stuff is because it's not the stock gasket, the stock gasket is just a little ring that sits in there, the diamond shape one comes with the aftermarket pipe you got. so you gotta order another one (from here?) or make one...

Is there a copper ring that fits between the crankcase manifold and the exhaust pipe (Technigas Next R)?

which is your gasket and seals the pipe to the cylinder.... Unless it is "EXTREMELY LOUD" I seriously doubt you have an exhaust leak...

I cut my own gasket, since the one I took off was half destroyed...it is much quieter now, you don't have to yell to talk when it's idling.
I also noticed that it stalls when it is idling...but I still don't have the performance airbox yet...using stock airbox with drilled holes.
I have not received the Malossi Variator yet, so I'm running with the stock...it works fine, slightly slower than stock performance up to about 45 km/h ~ 28mph then picks up to about 75 km/h (47mph).
Does Erich sell exhaust gaskets?
