This is for a bajaj but I guess it applies to all four strokes. I've heard people talking about "jetting" their scooters for different altitudes. Is that because of the oil mixed fuel? I understand air/fuel ratio and all that, but on a four stroke is jetting as important if I'm going to be riding at a different altitude?

Depends on the altitude, here I'm 303 feet and had to upjet for my derestriction on a Vino. The Bajaj did not need it. For a stock rejet, I doubt you'd need to upjet unless you were somewhere with a major altitude difference like Denver, but I'd think the dealer would already jet accordingly.

I'm just wondering if I would need to make an adjustment if I decide to go to the mountains for the weekend or something.

The mountains that back up to where I live along the Appalachian get up to about 2200 around Sidling Hill, and hadn't had to upjet when I had the Chetak, but then again, I really never rode it that much during the short time I had it to such elevations. I find four strokes better able to handle the changes in elevation than tu-strokes do.
