View Full Version : Battery Piggy Back???

I was wanting to run a number of accessory lights on my vino and was wondering if I could buy a second battery to piggy back on the stock battery. I would only be running the extra lights during rides at night and was thinking that the batteries could stay charged because of it. If there is anyone who has run extra lights i.e. neon or additional head lights that has experience please let me know what worked for you.
Thanks,
Jason

I have both headlights on at all times and have a dual air horn set up... The only thing I did was convert to the flat fuses and run a 15amp in 7.5 like was stock...

No problems I can see from it...

you should be able to run batteries in "line" if you want to... I'm about 90% sure you add the 2nd battery with a jumper wire from pos to neg....

it should be Scooter hot to stock battery, stock battery neg to hot of add on, new neg to scooter neg cable...

This will keep it 12 volt... if you hook them up pos to po, neg to neg your creating a 24 volt system...

Hey Jered with both my headlights on, at an idle, I can barely see the Indaglo at night. Do you have this prob? this is part of the reason I did the relay trick.

Yes.. but it's caused by a weak battery and charging system on MOST motorcycles...

At night I see it okay even at idle (enought to know whats going on).... Daytime can't tell there are lights on the guages at all...

I'll bet that looks great! Always on? no probs with "Johnny Law"?

I have assorted L.E.D.'s in various locations. Nice accent lighting.

WHOA!!!! This is incorrect. If you are adding a battery, you HAVE to connect the positive to positive, and negative to negative. Otherwise you WILL blow out the electrics on the scoot. When connecting the battery as I have described it (parallel) you are maintaining the 12 volts. If you connect the batteries as described in the previous post, you are generating 24 volts with a series battery hookup.

Also, you should be careful when switching out fuses (like from 7.5 to 15A). The fuses are not there to protect the accessories, they are there to protect the wiring, which is sized to handle only the current that the fuse is set for. If you increase the fuse and the load you may damage the wiring (which can be very hard to get to).

Oh no, this isn't going to be one of those AC-DC threads is it? :)

The neon is "always on" via the extra contacts on the ignition switch. I have not changed the fuse installed on the battery its still 7.5 AMP.The red neon doesn't seem to bother "Johnny Law" as its a red glow on the ground an it could be coming from the tail lights... I was looking for more side visibility at night with out adding any more visible lights to the panels. I know that the police do watch us (i.e. scooter drivers) very closely since the influx of the cheap mini bikes have caused a lot of problems in our area. I have spoken to the officers in our town and they indicated that there is very little they can do with these mini bikes. They are waiting for legislation to come down with some laws that they can enforce the non street legal bikes.

Same deal with MD, as far as under lights go, a lot depends on the state, MD they'll nail you even if you got them on a bicycle or a skateboard. Then you got the mentality in Nippon where the police like the kits cause it means you more visible.

Regardless getting back on topic, and saving the legality to the Law Forum, it's good to see that they're running with the stock fuse.
