View Full Version : How to unrestrict Triton R4?

well guys... i dont think i am going to go with the stage one kit... i have to many bad things about the variator... and i can not make this thing a money pit... so i thought i could get a little more power out of unrestricting the engine... or pipe...

Heres the deal... on my certificate that they gave me when i bought it said that it had 1.9 HP... nuthin about torqe and on the vento website it says Max. Power 6.7 HP / 7000 rpm (Unrestricted)
Max. Torque 6.8 Lbs.-Ft. @ 6500 rpm

so how can i make this scooter make this power.. because i know its not already unrestricted... it cant be... the take off is horrible... and somtimes bogs out... but i fixed that... i just wanna know how i can do this... every little bit of detail is great... but anything will work... i can figure it out with a harley freind of mine that works on bikes all the time... i just want to get some knowledge of ppl that know scooters...

I am unaware of the scooter your refering to however, most scooters that are restricted are done so by having the exhaust restricted, usually a washer or a funnel shaped piece of metal welded in place.

Also the variators are another regular place to restrict scooters... However I am not sure if yours is that way or not...

The CDI units on a bunch of the new name brand scooters all are limited in RPMS from the CDI unit... Retards the engine between 7 something to 9 something thousand RPM's... depending on the brand and model.

I know that the only one that you can accomplish easily without sinking money or more time into is the exhaust, pull yours off and take a look inside... See the hole get smaller? Drill the washer or funnel out.


Hopefully someone can give more info on this particular scooter... Anyone wanna bite?

My R3i said the same HP.

But, no way it's only 1.9. It will do over 40, and the dealer said that the particular one we bought is NOT restricted.

Easy way to tell would be your top speed, I think.

the restrictor is in the pipe...its a washer that makes the hole smaller.You can also up your performace a little by using aftermarket clutch springs and 3 of the lighter rollerweights in the variator...this will give you a little more umph of the line for take off.the washer in the variator will give you some more too,but mainly more top end.

HOW DID YOU FIX THE BOG DOWN PROBLEM? MINE REACHES 25 MPH AND BOGS DOWN. I LOOKED FOR RESTRICTORS IN VARIATOR, CLUTCH AND EXHAUST FOUND NONE.

How Do You Correct The Bog Down Problem? Mine Reaches 25 Mph And Then Bogs Down. I Looked For Restrictors But Found None In The Exhaust The Variator And Clutch. Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

I have a 2004 Triton r4. I did just the 70cc kit from "Scooter Lounge" and I top out at 50mph but my acceleration blows. It takes me 2 blocks to get to 30mph and a mile to hit 50mph . On hills I top out at 20mph. I am looking for a good chambered muffler next to hopefully give me some more power.

Sounds like your weights are too heavy, what are you using now? Yes, a chamber pipe makes all the difference. Leo vince ZX or technigas rs70 are good pipes for the money.

I haven't torn my trans apart yet but does anyone recommend a set of weights. What springs should I change to (torque and or clutch). I need to keep the top speed at around 50mph but i need more acceleration. "have not yet removed washer from front pulley"

I have a QJ RX8 and it looks like the same scooter. I pulled the pipe off and I don't see any restrictions in it.

This thing is a complete dog out of the hole until the power band kicks in. It gets a lot worse when it warms up. It even bogs bad and spits and sputters and cuts out then.

There has to be something I am missing here. I messed with the carb for a long time and no good.

If I could up the rpms on take off it would be better.

Need some helps guys.

You need lighter weights and a stiffer contra spring.

Try lubing the inside of the TD so when it heats up it goes back into the proper placement.

Got it, thanks. Are there any restrictions to get rid of on this thing? What is this washer I have been reading about on the clutch or the variator?

these scooters are a head ache as soon as they seem good something goes wrong. i have the 70cc bore kit and i used to be able to hit 50mph now i can barely hit 30mph and it feels like something is holding it back. i rebuilt the carb and even tried a new one. it starts and runs great just seems bogged down and never really gets up in rpms. please help
