I received my leovince zx pipe 3 weeks ago (very happy) but i notice the pipe is starting to rust. The pipe i order is not chromed , but it is suppost to be clear coated. ANY IDEAL how to get the rust off, and keep it off. Is there a clear coat that can take the heat? thank you for any help and ideals!

do you keep your scoot outside?
Naval Jelly WILL remove the rust, but I am unsure of any CLEAR High Temp paint..... most High temp is either black,red,blue...you know, the basic colors...

I just painted my Leovince ZX. I painted mine flat black with 1500 deg. heat resistance. I think it looks great.

My chrome leo ZX pipe has a little pitting on it...
it's normal as they are cheaply coated...

I just put one on and I was thinking about paint. With the '05 I think I'll go with flat black.
Is it hard to get the silencer off? I could have it chromed...

Its easy to take off just remove the allen head bolt that holds the clamp around the silcencer ,and remove the 3, 10mm bolts connecting the silencer to the pipe thats all there is too it. The silencer is carbon fiber, you cant chrome carbon fiber, although you can buy the zx pipe in chrome.

yeah.. I have a chrome ZX pipe sitting in a box... but those rust too... mine has some minor pitting...
My for race polini pipe has rust around the cylinder and it's got all of 20 miles on the pipe.. it gets hot and boils the finish off... I think I might paint it flat black like the rest of the scooter...

Of course it's gonna rust! After all, you'd the TinMan!
Actually, are you guys sure it is rust your seeing? The ZX is listed as "special 10/10 mm stainless steel". Stainless steel will discolor when subjected to high heat, giving the appearance of oxidation. I have witness it on my dirt bike’s stainless steel exhaust (FMF powerbomb header). :smokin:

I have the chrome one and it has minor pitting... but it was used about 4 months... and ridden in harsh alaska environment...
But it still looks good...
nothing like what people sound like they are having with theirs though...

I'm not familiar with "special 10/10 mm stainless steel", but apparently Italy must be running short on nickel! And when Leo says "It is varnished to ensure excellent protective potential against the elements", I guess the key work here is “potential”. Am I just a county boy or is varnish intended for wood? :ll

What are the odds. I just painted mine today. I live on the west coast of Canada and man do things rust quick here; and for sure it was rust on that puppy.
Good luck with your pipe,
Kyle.
