I just bought an 03 geely jl50qt-14, I put a new battery in it and fired right up. I drove it for about a week then went to start it and the starter just turn and won't crank over the motor? I have torn apart the starter assembly and the took out the bendix and took to a local scooter shop and they said it worked fine, I also tested the starter and it seems to be working fine also? I am very confused and have no idea what is wrong with it any advise would be great thanks.

sometimes a low battery will keep the starter from working.
try charging your battery and see if that helps.
and yes ,i see you put in a new one but it may not have been charged correctly at first
or the scooters stator is not producing power to recharge the battery.

Bad battery? Even some "new" batteries can be poor performers.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

buy a good battery.
charge it correctly the first time.
(this is the key to having a battery last )
keep it on a auto float charger when not in
use for 60 days or more.
a 2 or 4 amp is not a good choice to charge your battery as it
will burn it up. ( it can be used but only for 10-15 min)
i use a .75v charger for the first boost
read the top of the battery, it has a charging schedule
something like 10~hrs @ .5 v and the 'quick' method.

best method for charging a battery is
warm up the battery if possible .. if the sun is out here in the PNW
i put the dry battery in my car window for 20 min or so
add the acid and LET IT SIT for 30min.
then connect the charger.
that being said some places sell pre charged battery's
if you buy one of those you just install and go.

Okay so I just tried to jump my scooter to see if it was the battery and when I make the bendix engage the starter doesn't have the power to turn it over? Does this mean the starter is bad?

no, not necessarily . i have 6 Geeley chain drives that i use for rentals
sometimes they get hydro locked with oil and the SM or the kick
will not turn over the motor .... they act like the battery is dead
until i drain the oil from the cylinder.

I can get it to run fine with the kick start

perhaps there is a bad ground connection ?
and then again it could be the bendix.

I went threw all the wiring and made sure all the connections were good and I had the bendix looked at and was told it's working perfect it has no resistance at all

might be the starter solenoid
NAPA has them -- Echlin AR604 fits most of the geelys
try jumping directly to the starter from the battery
you only will need one jumper on the + to the starter.
turn on the key and jump it

I'll give that a shot when I get home from work and let you know how it goes

Okay so I put a jumper cable from my car battery directly to my starter and the starter turned but when I made the bendix engage again the starter didn't seem to have the nice to crank over the motor? Bad starter?

Also be sure nothing is binding the assembled parts - no missing spacers or misaligned pieces.
I had a binding bendix that just needed the case bolts loosened a bit to relieve some pressure that was preventing the starter motor to spin up. I went in again to reassemble everything carefully, then it worked.
Hope you get yours sorted soon!
