I was wondering what people think about using fully synthetic oil to break in a brand new motor. I have heard that it is too slippery and regular fossil oil should be used to break the motor in.
Anyone have any info on this? :ghost:

ive heard this too atleast with 4stroke engines that its good to break it in with a regular fossil oil,and to switch over after the break in, i would think it applies to a 2 stroke as well seeing that its suppose to promote the rings seating.

I too have heard and followed that logic. Since I don't believe in the factory recommended break in, I guess I could be wrong. Every new vehicle or new engine that I have run was vary the speed up and down the band and don't hold it in one spot too long. Btw, I do run Mobil one in my old Vette but that is just because the two previous owner did. I once switched to synthetic in a diesel Audi with 100k+ on some ones advice and the oil consumption went from about 1/2 qt or less between changes to 2 1/2 qt between changes. Nearly broke me.

I have full synthetic oil in mine... and will always use it...

I'm not fond of dino oil... my focus has Amsoil in it...

yes expensive oil for a regular old car...

My dealer out Amsoil in my Derbi and said that is what he recommends and so does the manufactor..

The owners manual says use "AGIP CITY 2T whatever that means...

Break in's are Very important if you ask The Manufacture ,with out it No Power in the Future will be Felt.. :jesta: After i broke it in ,I got a Huge Power increese So when Scooters are new there not At FULL POWER YET! I say 88% for a New Scooter engine After Break in 100% with synthetic o_o

Thats wierd, because after I broke in my Triton it didn't seem to be as fast as when it was brand new; it was like this on my zip also.

The reason that your scooter isn't as fast after breaking it in is because when it's brand new the rings are perfect and you have the most compression. After you break it in the rings set and the tolerances aren't as tight as new. When you lose compression you lose power and then in turn speed.

belt wear can also cause a loss of speed...
