I got a 2005 honda metropolitan from my grandpa.I dont know much about it other then it will cruise at 40mph all day long. from what i researched other people are getting 23mph and removing the restrictor plate gives them 30mph. Basically what I;m asking is i want to make my metro a little faster, like a small increase in top speed like 45-50 and better hill climbing, what i read removing the restrictor plate helps. Does my metro have a restrictor plate i could remove and increase performance or is there another way? Just couldn't find anything on a 2005 metro going 40 or anything about removing the restrictor plate from one, all suggestions welome, i can get the vin # if that would help

just realized i have a met 1 so 40mph is normal. from the videos I watched of 2005 and 2006 mets accelerating mine accelerates much quicker to 40mph then just kind of cuts out, feels like its got more left in it. Any way to disable to the governor? increase top speed?

You will probably need to get a Service manual to see if any restrictions exist. Sometimes you can find them on the internet and download them. The top rated speed for the 2005 Met is 38 mph. So if you are getting 40 mph, any restriction may already have been removed? Changing from rollers to Dr. Pully sliders will give you some increase in top end amd acceleration, maybe a couple mph. Beginning with the 2006 models, Honda increased the rpm and top speed to 40-43 mph

Get an exhaust(Yoshimura TRC) and an 'ignition curve' box(often called a cdi boost box). Then a high flow air filter. That'll get you to 45 at least. If you then jet the carb(I don't know what jet to go to) and do the cvt, you'll be sitting pretty.

There is no restrictor plate in the 2005 Met I carb. There may be a washer between the variator halfs. You will need a service manual or find someone who has owned one, to knows for sure. Removing the washer will increase top end. Since it is a 4T my guess is there is none. There is no exhaust restriction. The only restriction you probably have is an rpm limited ignition (CDI or EUC). De-restricting it will not help unless you do some serious and expensive mods. As I stated. The cheapest mod you can do is replace the rollers in the Variator with Dr Pulley Sliders. You could get a 2-3 mph top end increase and better acceleration with the sliders. There are videos on the internet to show you how to do it. And as I also stated, the 2005 Met I is rated for 38 mph top speed, so if you are gettng 40 mph, you are ahead of the game.

There is no governor per se. I don't know if the 2005 Met I has a CDI or EUC. Which ever, the rpm limiter is part of the ignition. It is there to keep from over-revving the engine. What happens is the ignition reduces the voltage or retards the spark so the scooter won't go any faster. All you can do is install a non-restricted CDI or EUC, but they are very expensive. I know of at least two people who installed an non-restricted CDI on their Yamaha Classic 4t and it made no difference. The rpm limiter is designed to kick in at the top of the power band of the scooter. The Dr Pulley sliders will transfer the available HP to the higher rpm which will increase your top speed some.

Provo parts store has a performance variator. But when you go with the performance variator, you may have to mod the clutch as well. As far as the sliders, just google Dr. Pulley Sliders. There are several scooter parts dealers selling them. I have no idea what weight or size to get for your Met. The retailers may be able to help you with that if you ask them. You are on your own with drilling holes in the air box. The only thing I know is that if you increase the air intake you can lean out the engine and have to rejet the carb. That can be a lot of trial and error until you get it right.

they sell the dr pulley sliders but i have no idea what the dimensions mean and which ones i should buy for my scooter. I obviously want the heavier ones for a higher top speed but could you help me out with which ones to get?

The dimensions are the dia and width in cms (I think). The weight is in grams. I have no clue what the Met 1 has. Here is a Honda Met forum, I am sure they can help you.
