View Full Version : zuma's Corbin seat... interested in a group buy on these?

I am planning on getting one of the corbin seats for my zuma come june or july...
Just wondering if I can get 5-10 people togeather that will commit to buying one each, the retail price is $239 plus shipping, to see if we can negotiate a discount price on them.
I set up a group buy on parts for my SVT focus back before it died... and we got a decent price and had to have 15 orders... they were only a $90 part so it took more people buying it to make it worth while...
If there are 5 people who say they will 100% buy them if we can get them for $200 each plus shipping or less... I will try and work out a group buy from them and arrange shipping to each person from Corbin the manufacturer so there would be no worries of anyone being ripped off by having them shipped multiple times or "being lost in the mail"...
Let me know what you ZUMA owners think...

Please DO NOT POST unless you are a ZUMA owner and are 100% willing to commit to the buy if it works out...
http://corbin.com/yamaha/zuma.shtml is the site where these seats are listed... so you can take a look at them...
all leather, in a "carbon fiber" design...
I want one and will get one in june or so reguardless of this group buy happening or not... so hopefully we can get a handful of zuma owners who want one and we can get a steal on them...

okay... so I called corbin and they don't sound to helpful... they said to call a corbin dealer...
So instead, I asked erich if he could contact them and see if he can get the seats for us... If he can get them for a good price then sell them to us for $200 plus shipping... I'd be happier then heck... so we'll see what he says about it and if they will work with him being a dealers for them...
I'll let you guys know when I hear from erich on this...

Well I like that seat and would get one but see I am 6'6" so where I sit is that little back part of the seat cause if I sit on the front pat I can't turn my Zuma due to my Knees hehe but it would be a nice seat if it was just flat :)

I can't imagine seeing a 6'6" person riding a scooter... I'm 5'10" and it's just right... let along another 8"....

NOPE... and I haven't looked elsewhere... Lennox, the Corbin manufacturer is in Florida... might have more luck trying to deal with them as your local or maybe from a dealer there in florida... I know of 1 custom shops here... I doubt that any of the cycle manufacturers would work it up here as they all apply the "Alaska Tax" inflated shipping and handling charges...
Still waiting for a reply from erich on this one...

I was just kidding...
I called corbin and they said we had to talk with a distibuter to see if they'll hook us up with a deal as they won't....
I emailed erich, but he's not a corbin dealer so I doubt they will work with him either...
I wouldn't use any dealers up here as shipping them here then back to you guys would be crazy and probably cost more then just buying them direct in the first place...
so... someone in the lower 48 wanna try?

I am pretty sure I can arrange your Zuma seats for $200. each plus non-escalated UPS to any of the 48 states. Pre-padi by visa, mc, discover or american express. I can be reached at this email address (parts@vetesnik.com)attention Scott in the subject line regarding Corbin seat. We are located in Wisconsin. Unless they have them on hand Corbin seats take 2-3 weeks to be built and delivered to our dealership. I have an inside rep who has been great to work with I order and average of 20 custom seats a year from hime with no problems.
I just picked up a Zuma myself this week for the 4 mile commute to work.
Of course I am gona ask you tons of newbie questions for help getting my Zumer tweaked up.
First question I picked up a variator made by Athena and a Leo Vince ZX as we had one on the shelf (chrome sweet) Anyhow has anyone used the Athena I don't see or hear much about it.
Oops gotto go my 3 year old just woke up crabby.

So you guys know there is a member who is a dealer who can work getting these for us for exactly $200 and shipping... he quoted me $22.50 to my grandpa's house in washington...
So he's in wisconsin I think that'd probably be the most the shipping would be... but could possibly be a hair more...
the 5 who said YES....
he said that he has to have 5 paid orders by credit card or cashiers check...
so if you guys want to do this... PM me... with a FIRM YES and your email address... once you do this and there are 5 people total (4 including me) I will contact the member with all of our contact info and then we can place our orders...

It only takes about an hour to recontour the stock seat. First thing I did on my scooter.

Pinky, will the seat cover still fit with the "new" shape?

Pinky, Can you elaborate on the recontouring the stock seat? Does this involve removing the cover and trimming the foam? I have considered this as an alternative and have some (little at best) upholtery experience.

Pull the staples except on the front 1/4 of the seat, and pull the cover back. Some guys have used sandpaper, but I found that a Stanley surform tool that looks like a cheese grater on a handle makes the job quick and easy. Just scrape away and shape the foam as you like. It doesn't have to be neat. Small errors won't show. Stretch the cover back around, using a staple gun. Mine wouldn't push the staples all the way through the plastic, so I seated them with long-nose pliers. The cover will look stock, and you'll have a seat you can live with.

I did this... and it's still uncorfortable...
No matter if we buy them in a group or not... then end of june at the latest I will order one when I get my bonus check... (yes we get those, but they are tiny!)

I'm sure the Corbin is way better. The seat is still a little wide in front, and the padding gets thin when you work it. For me, though, the stock seat simply wouldn't do. It was a matter of fix it or sell the scooter.

Hey Erika--I find the Vino seat very comfortable too. I have gone on long rides of two or more hours and no numb butt yet. :) On the other hand, I have heard of complaints about the Honda Metropolitan seat

Hiya Susan :)
The Vino really is a comfy little scoot to ride around on. I'm loving it more every day.
Seriously, you should think about doing a stage one on your Vino. It's amazing how it transforms the little scooter. I go everywhere on mine now and speed and hills are never an issue anymore. I'm just so very happy with my Vino now!
Apparently Zuma owners aren't as happy with the stock Zuma seat. (I threw that in to stay on topic... sawwy Jered ;) )

The Vino seat is great. Actually, most scooter seats work fine. I've long suspected that the Zuma seat is a misguided effort to get revenge for WWII, or maybe just the result of somebody's bad sense of humor. For the average rider it's torture. Can't be an accident. Maybe an international conspiracy. Possibly somebody should tip the CIA.

There's nothing to see. Looks exactly like the stock seat except the hump is gone. When you stretch the vinyl nobody notices the difference. I've had a couple of scooter guys sit on it and remark that something's not right. Then, they catch on that the seat is different. Under the vinyl it's far from perfect, but you'd never know.

For those of you who end up getting the Corbin seat for your Zuma, I have a friend who makes scooter seatcovers & is interested in buying a Zuma seat so she can make patterns. PM me if you have one.

we have a total of 6 people who said they are in the buy...
For anyone who is thinking about it... this buy is currently in the process of placing orders... so if you want one, you need to get into the buy now, as once the orders are placed the price will probably go up... since we are getting a deal with 5 seats being ordered, corbin is dropping the shipping charges to the retailer, so we get them for $200 per seat plus $27 shipping from the retailer to your door...
instead of $239 plus $27 shipping...

This Zuma owner has little to complain about the seat...I've been on 100 mile rides and had an only mildly numb butt...can't ask for more than that.
As a larger and taller rider, one thing that really impresses me about the Zuma seat design is the ability to slide ever further aft for a semi- aerodynamic position. Not that a 40 mph scooter NEEDS an aerodynamic crouch, but the overall feel is sporty, and gives the longer distance rider a few position changes, which cyclists get by changing hand grips...[there are many differently curved bars], but a scooter rider needs to shift other parts of the anatomy.
I'd hate to give that versatility up for style.

um...
You still have the rear seat... I use my rear seat 75% of the time and probably will continue...
However it's there seats are pure luxury and after all the "roughening" my zuma has recieved... it's time to make it more user friendly...

this is happening....
here is what you need to do for the buy...
Everyone looking at the seat buy for the Zumas go to www.corbin.com (http://www.provoscooter.com/vbull/www.corbin.com)
Goto across the tool bar and go togeneral info follow the link to materials and you will see the color choices.
You can goto the scooter section and follow the link to Zuma to see a completed seat. On the side panels you will see sewn panels these can each be a different color material.
Corbin insists the seat area will be a smooth leather.
I would reccomend the black but to each his or her own.
They no longer use welt/cord around the edges for comfort and durability.
The more colors you choose the longer the build time.
I recieved mine in all black leather in 2 weeks, plan on 3 weeks if you go crazy with say ostrich, gator and smooth leather all on one seat.
I will need to know your model year, and color choices so you can call me a t work Tuesday-Friday Saturdays are too difficult extremely busy. I am central time from 9pm-5pm would be best.

okay, if you were planning on getting into this buy but have been putting it off....
Last chance, you need to contact scott to get the order placed by monday or tuesday...
The order should be placed on tuesday... so if you haven't contacted him by then.... your out of luck....and will not be able to get the $200 plus $27 shipping price being offered...
remember the retail price you will pay at a store is $239 plus shipping when you order it... so it costs you $40 less to buy now throught the group buy...
DON'T PUT IT OFF ANY LONGER OR YOU WILL MISS OUT!

So, BTW...
apparently no one else wanted in on the buy... My contact said I was the only one who produced card info to buy one...
so the deal is off for the $200 price... but you can get one from him for the retail price of $239 plus shipping...
