Hi ,people ,I installed my leovince zx pipe today ( purchase from provoscooter) but were I am (canada) it,s to cold out to do the rest (springs and rollers).I went for a ride on some spots not covered by snow, and with the pipe alone a noticed a big diff between 0 to35mph . My question to you is when i install the spring and weights that came with the pipe i,m i going to notice a big diff. (04 stock zuma and my weight is 200 lbs dressed)

Yes, you need the springs and rollers. Makes a difference. I don't know which part # Provo sells, but your pipe may be restricted. Looking in from the flange end you should see round pipe. If there's kind of a cone in there, you need to take it out.

mine came with a cone in it when I got all my parts originally I used a ZX pipe... the funny thing, the cone fell out on it's own...

funny thing about the Leo Vince... seems Leo expects his pipes to be deristricted.

You mean were the pipe bolts to the cylinder head ,I looked down the pipe and saw no restriction cone or washer ,like a mention before right now it,s minus 16 with windchill so when it warms up i will finish the install of the springs and rollers

Someone please educate me newbee here. What will the rollers & springs improve?

Hi TF,
There are lots of in depth discussions here in the forum that will answer you question in detail.
The quick and dirty answer is that expansion chamber type pipes generally make more power at higher rpms than stock pipes, but less power at lower rpms. The springs allow the clutch to engage and the rollers allow upshift to begin at a higher rpm, better suiting the new pipe.

the rollers: change what rpm's the variator starts opening and is completely open... as well, if you have take off from a rolling start.. etc..
the clutch springs: keep a set pressure on the clutch disks and allow them to open at a set RPM rate...
the torque spring: is basically the same thing, changes when the clutch will start to enguage...
if you leave them stock, they will open WAY to soon... and cause the engine to have to power the scooters movement without being in it's power band...
YOU MUST change these 99% of the time when you change the pipe...

Newbie here also... but the weights tell the variator when to 'up shift' (yeah, sorry I know were all shiftless) and the tension spring provides the back pull on the clutch end.
Clutch springs change when (as in RPM) the clutch actually engages.
I got the same pipe, rode 2 days before I did the springs.
Installed the springs & weights and needed to change the weights, but after that.... Zuma Zoom Zoom. With the stock carb and ignition I still bury the speedo until it hits the bottom.
Not a bad deal!
It was the completeness of the LV ZX pipe that made it for me. Not just the pipe, but a nicely matched set of springs too.

Yup- they all work hand in hand, change 1 then change the other.

Okay, I'm starting to understand now. I have a pre-owned LeoVince ZX coming with springs but no rollers/weights. Are the rollers/weights one in the same? And are the weights used (by trial & error) to make adjustments to fit the scooters riding style (hills, acceleration vs top speed), gross weight, and specific performance modifications?
Thanks everyone. Without forums like this, my only mod would be a helmet to protect my coconut!

Yes- weights/rollers are used to make the scoot ride the way you want it to and many, many factors go in to what works best, to include:
if you want quicker take off
if you want higher top end
YOUR weight (150lbs person different setup than 250lbs person)
hilly area (need more torque)
flat roads (higher HP will work since not having to "pull" you up hills)
where your motor likes the "sweet spot" to be which comes from the pipe, rollers, clutch and every thing else added in
I guess the best answer is like you said- trial and error, get a few sets and see what works best.

Knowing it is a trial & error tuning issue, what is the average time for replacing the rollers/weights once you have done it a couple of times? From the Yamaha service manual, my guesstimate is an hour or so?

15 minutes or so, depending on how many bolts you have in the cover, and whether or not you have the black plastic on.

If you dont have a impact driver, or a large phillips screwdriver changing over to 10mm head bolts for your cover will save time, and hassle ,and wont strip easy like the phillipshead bolts.
