this is not related to scooters but it a question about 2-stroke engine oil. do they make a RED 2 stroke engine oil?? ive only seen green and blue. here's why i ask.
my buddy has a 2002 yamaha blaster and it a 2 stroke. 2 weeks ago we were out riding and he was geting low on oil. so we drove across a feild that comes up behind a gas station. he went in a bought a qt. of AMOCO 2 cycle oil. it was red and it really didnt smell like 2 cycle oil. it said it was for oil injection which he has so he used it even tho he didnt want to because thats all they had and he would have ran out for the long hall back. we got back home and stop riding for the night. then two days later we went riding again and about 1/2hr worth of riding later the engine locked up tight. he kept it well maintaned has never had a problem until he put the red oil in. so we went back to the gas station with the remaining oil to ask a few questions only to find out they stoped carring AMOCO oil the day before.??? they gave him a number to call the head manager who said he will look into it and call him back. two weeks went by with no answer. so he called again today and got no one to answer the phone.

I used to use some synthetic oil in my moped for premix and it was gold. It was a castor oil forget the exact one.

update
they finaly called him back today. the guy has been searching the warehouse to try to find the oil and he finally found some. he thought it was a joke until he found a lonely box in the corner that had a few qts. in it. he said he took a qt home to check it out. he highly beleives the oil is trans fluid put in the wrong bottle. he then said that he has a meeting with head boss's tomarrow and he gonna bring it up. if they all agrea its trans fluid bottled wrong, AMOCO will be shipping him a new engine for his blaster. hopefuly it all works out for him.

wow, that would be very cool of them. Usually these sorts of things end with a "Sorry, you should have known" answer! :worship:

I think I remember Jered or one of the other Zuma warriors stating that they ran sythetic oil in their tranny. Anyway, I am coming up to the 600 mile mark and will be changing the oil in the tranny according to the manual. Any swear bys or testimonials that I should hear? The manual calls for Yamalube 4,SAE10W30SE or GL gear oil. I would like to get the most bang for the buck in my 05 "Zoomer" and since it holds so little, cost should not be a concern.
Thanks for any feedback. Lovin' my scooter. ::handleba

Ive always used mobil 1 10w 30 in my transmission, and noticed it didnt leave as much gunk behind after oil changes, and that it sticks to the gears better then the fossil oil.

ditto... I use mobil 1 1 synthetic oil... 10w30... some say not to use synthetic but never got a good reason not to...
IMO it's better oil period, why not use it...

Thanks for the feed back. I know Mobil 1 is good stuff because all the Vette owners swear by it. I think that will be my choice.
Again, Thanks for the reply.

On a side note of this...
Pinky... I saw you posted something about your bearings on the rear end going bad and thought it had something to do with the full synthetic mobile 1 oil...
Do tell more info please!

I have used Mobil 1 75/90 synthetic gear oil in the trans on both of my Zumas. After reading the specs I decided GL gear lube would take better care of gears, bearings and shafts spinning in a small capacity hot oil bath. The "specs" don't list what viscosity gear lube. The 75/90 is the thinnest gear lube but it is almost twice as thick as 10/30 synthetic. 75/90 synthetic cSt@40c=126 and 10/30 synthetic cSt@40c=63. I don't think thicker is better but I think gear lube is better for gear boxes. Its worked in hot Texas, maybe 10/30 is better in cold Alaska. Thanks for all the tech stuff, opinions and experiences shared in this forum.
