Got an 03 vino for my wife and I wanted it to have a little more punch without spending money on it. read and searched and decided to remove the restrictive washer but I don't see it. it just has the brass gasket washer.

The exhaust restriction is just inside the mounting flange on the exhaust itself. From the looks of your pictures I'm not seeing it. It looks like it has already been removed. what types of speeds are you seeing? depending on how many miles are on it you could get some more power back by replacing the belt. As they wear down your scooter will start to lose power.

my sister in law bought it new in 03 and said she had never had any mods done on it. it has 1400 miles on it. I'll check the belt and see what condition its in but over a few years and a few miles I would imagine its stretched a bit. I also read about putting a bigger needle valve in the carb and removing a washer on the clutch assembly. it was on a different scooter so not sure if these mods will work on this thing. the trick here is that this is my wifes scooter and I want to tinker with it. she will not go for spending money so I will be doing home job style mods. things like shock replacement, belts, tires and the like would fall under maintainece so that wont be to big of a deal as long as I don't spring it on her all at once.

I think I can faintly see the restriction on the top of the exhaust port. Run your finger in side of it and if you feel like its a half moon shape in there you have the restriction in there still. If it feels like a full circle, you do not have it.

you mean on the motor itself not in the pipe? yes there is a half moon shape in there. how do I get it out??

The restriction is in the cylinder itself.
Really the only way to get it out other than getting a performance cylinder is to dremle it out. Make sure to use a exhaust gasket as the outline.

ok I was just about to get the dremil when I thought I better check the forum. it just felt like one solid piece to me and I figured grinding would be the only way. thanks for the help.

next is the varience (sp?) washer how to get it out without springs flying everywhere?

did some grinding and here is what it looks like now. could have done a little more but I was getting tired of laying under there with my finger on the trigger of my drill. my grinding bit was too big for my dremel.

I hope this was the right washer to remove. is there one in the back as well?? I can feel a bit more power with these two mods but I still need more!! any suggestions?? free to cheap is what I'm going for.

perhaps a bigger main jet (67.5) is what you are looking for

I was looking at the jets, do I just need the main jet or is there two?? I have not been into this carb at all. I figured thats the cheapest next mod to do.

some guys change the idle jet too but it isn't necessary
until you go to a cylinder & pipe and then you might not need to do it
start with the main jet and see if that is what your looking for..

good call, I'll try that and see where we get. any good suggestions on air intake options? I'm gonna try to get into the scooter lounge and see what they have in there or just order it, it will probably get here before I actually get down to orem but I really want to check out the scooter grave yard they have there

How did grinding that bit off work out for you? I bought a 2002 and they said they did a "mod" to it so I pulled the exhaust off ( bolts to head were still loose!) and I could see that the restrictor had been ground out of the pipe, the head looks similar to yours but seeing as I could see the grinding marks in the pipe I put it back together. I took it for a burn before hand and it accelerates not too bad and got up to 55 km/h (35 mph) on a relatively short road. So from reading on the forums I am guessing that there is no grinding of the head required, or am I mistaken?

I took my pipe off not knowing if someone had modded it, saw nothing there and put it back on too. Is the crescent shape in the head what needs to be dremmeled out? If so how do you do it and not get metal shavings up there.

Thanks!

After you upjet a bit (as long as you got enough of the restriction out) you should be seeing 35-38 mph. Thats about all your gunna get for free. I wouldnt think your belt would be to worn with 1400 miles on it though...those suckers arent cheap man!! I think we saw almost 4 mph difference just by taking the washer out of the variator.
