View Full Version : No Compression!

Oh no. after about 33,000km, my 2009 agility 125 seems to have died, and it gets no compression. (yeah, it got a lot of attention in two years)

I don't really have the time to break the engine down myself. I technically do have the money to have it worked on by a [really good] local shop, But they quoted me $400 in labor plus parts (I assume its the rings, but I could be wrong)...

I have found a brand new 150cc gy6 on MBE Motorsports for the same $400 (couldn't find a 125). I Could take the time to mount a new engine over a weekend (or two). But my only concern is how seamless would this conversion be? If it'll bolt right up, I'm going to do that, because I can order the engine with whatever mods I want right out of the crate.

So, Will the 150 bolt right onto the agility 125? Has anyone tried it? If it's not a simple bolt-on, what kind of work is involved?

I think your best bet would be to measure the mounting holes before you attempt such a thing. However, without having the new engine there that is a moot point. Your compression loss could be a number of things, such as a blown head gasket, or loose head, as well as worn rings. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying a Chinese scooter, for multiple reasons, notwithstanding non-availability of parts, cheap construction and shoddy reliability, though since you've already made this decision, I would think about trying to fix it rather than buying an engine that you don't know will fit or not. a good weekend project, but you can do it! hehe. I have faith in you.

not much difference between a 125 & 150 gy6 just the piston size
if you decide to go the swap route just make sure you get a long case
or short case motor depending on what you have...
usually the wheel size will tell you what you need eg;
10" is usually short case and 12"+ is the long case...
the swap should only take a day , good luck!

The website I'm quoting prices from does have a few different casing options. Long, short, and one with a disc brake option. I'm fairly sure I have the short case, but I'll verify the diameter of my wheel before the purchase.

I'm fairly sure there's even a few dimensions on the website. I suppose I could just check that against what's on the scooter now.

From what I take, the engine is just held on by the one bolt on which it pivots for rear suspension, and its also connected to the shock. Am I correct?

Yup.
Then just the electrical connectors, brake cable, throttle cable, and the fuel line.

Awesome. Thanks so much, guys, for the input. I'll keep ya posted on the conversion over the next couple months (looking to make the engine purchase near the beginning of the year)

So the website says that the long case is suitable for a 16" wheel (and I'm pretty sure I don't have a 16"). Should I just go with the long case regardless to be on the safe side? if I have the smaller wheel (it's still at the shop. I gotta go pick it up), will the only difference be how funny it looks?

the center stand might be really close to the ground
and hard turns might scrape the ground ...
whats your front wheel diameter?

Sorry to bring this post back, but its relevant:

Scooter kicked the bucket and its time for a new engine (33k km on it now. I'm going to fix it just for fun, but I want a new engine for my scoot)

I measured my rear wheel at really close to 13", the manual says its 12". Does this mean I have the long case?

I've attempted a measure (bike fully assembled) of the case to the axle, and I get about 10" which isn't 9 or 11 as the pics I've seen in some crate engines show.

I got the 150cc long case after getting a little advice from a local trusted scooter shop.

Estimated ship date for the engine is Monday. I'm wondering, though. Should I be looking for a different exhaust? From what I've seen, they use the same exhaust size, but some people believe that I should get a bigger one. Any thoughts?

The 150 doesn't bolt right up. There's a very very slight difference in the distance between engine mounts. I'll grind down the body mount just a little and this should work... if only I could get my dremel working.
