When I first start my elite on any morning its fine, the choke is on and you cant immediately give it throttle or it will die out (which is fine). When it warms up and you take off for about the first 20 seconds it pudders then the power will fully kick in....And it does this when you sit idle like at a stop sign, it will idle fine but as soon as you take off instead of having that suddon burst of power that it has normally, it always putters for about 3-5 seconds before it kicks in....
I have changed the sparkplug and replaced it with the one that is calls for in the manual, I also have checked the air filter and it feels like kinda sticky (no dirt will come out of it either) so I ordered a new one. I also have tried using different brand/octane fuels.
Now on the carburetor how many turns out should the air/fuel mixture screw be? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I am wanting to install a big bore kit (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370387404412&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

Do I have to upgrade the exhaust and carburetor? OR can I leave those stock?

i believe the fuel screw is 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 turns out, and with the bbk you can use the stock carb just up jet, but to get the best performance upgrade you exhaust. and try a set of gears before you bbk it, get like 9:1 gears and a set of 2k clutch grab springs.

I reset the carb, someone had the screw almost all the way out. But still after resetting it when it idles and then you take off I get that annoying putter like the carb is flooding out. And when I start the bike I have to have it at full throttle when warm.

Sticky air filter? probably clogged, I would try the new filter first, if that doesn't help, then check for airbox or carb and manifold leaks. hth

filter is supposed to be sticky. it helps keep the dirt in your filter and not in ur carb. if you buy a new one it will be sticky. and i would hat to say it but i bet ur compression is low do to the idle issues if you turned the air/fuel mixture screw in and then backed out to 2 to 2 1/4 turns is the usual but adjust it accordingly. anyway if u r not getting it t idle rite then it could be a issue with compression.

Your right, the new filter is sticky also and I have adjusted the air/fuel mixture. It will idle, but when you go to take off it putters like its running too rich for the first 10 seconds then it takes off and runs perfect. But when you sit at a stop sign it loads up, and it dont matter were you set the carburetor...
I can deal with the puttering when you take off so thats not a big problem to me, the bike still runs great and has a top speed of over 35mph without the exhaust restriction removed so I'm not complaining.
