anyone out there have a ring or 2 you'd be willing to sell? I've got an 03 Zip R3, after opening up the exhaust port, I broke a ring during reassembly!!!!!
So, now my scoot's down while I find a new ring or two. Vento.com SUCKS!!!
They want me to give them my C.C. number and secret pin on an unsecured webpage, that ain't gonna happen. Any help will be appreciated. PM me if you can help.

try goin to the yamaha dealer and see if they got any stock yamaha jog rings. just take your piston with your to match it up or the other unbroken ring.

uh..you broke a ring while the Engine was running?...or while you were trying to compress it for re-assembly..I am confused..

during reassembly, I did not have the gap lined up with the anti spin pin.when I gave it a tap with a rubber hammer, it went "tink" I went "AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!" My buddy Sandcrab, who I ride with often has a Yama Zuma that he upped to 70 cc. had his old 50 cc stuff in a box. His piston and rings fit my cyl. perfectly, so I borrowed one of his rings. Reassembly will happen today, I'll let y'all know if porting the cyl. helped. :)

never, EVER, never, leave the cylinder cover and fan shroud off while test riding a Vento Zip R3. I overheated my scoot while testing the new porting job, the motor seized at about 48mph WOT running!!!!! I let it cool down, squirted some Marvel Mystery Oil down the spark plug hole and rode it easy back home. Then I reinstalled the fan shroud and cylinder covers and test rode again, I hit 49 mph on a flat road with no cars in front of me!!!! SWEET!!!

Damn..... Lennox is in Daytona..he has both a Zip and a Zuma..But I am not totaly sure your ring clearances are the same.. anybody else know?? ...Are the Vento zip ..and the Zuma the same exact Piston Ring clearances??..I dont want to be a wet Rag..but you might seize again....when the Marvels runs out....Are you hearing anything different??..any ringing sound..or anything out of the Ordinary??..

it sounds fine, it runs better. I retested it with all cooling shrouds in place. It runs just fine. I might have even bumped up the compression a bit, I did not use a cylinder bottom gasket, I used Suzuki Three Bond gasket material instead. :)

Kudos to Erich.. I ordered the stage 2 upgrade and received it 10 days later. That is fine by me. after a few days of running to break it in( I can't ride it every day ), it's running better than ever. I had some serious issues with the cable splitter, I had to modify it. I might have to go premix to totally solve this problem but I hope not. I love being able to pull up to a gas pump, fill up, and ride away...... As far as leaning out the mix? my plug is dark, not grey, I'm running a bit heavy on the oil mix right now, but I'm tuning it after the upgrade. has anyone here tried to change over to a dual pull throttle? I just ordered one on ebay. it was $14, plus 6 shipping. It doesn't have a start button, and possibly my mirror wont mount to it, but it seems like a good fix to my problems.
