I was pretty sure that I wanted a Vento Phantom R4i, but after hearing about this Bet & Win 250 I just don't know... This bike does everything I'd want it to do (except it could be abit cheaper http://deephousepage.com/smilies/pullhair.gif ) Now the big question, am I ready to lay down some money. Gooooooood question *drool*

I'm not fond of the $3999 price tag...

I liek $1800 better... then you have upgrade cash as well.. or just get 2...

but that's just me...

I have no real thoughts on this scooter... just get what will work best for you and what you need it to do... have you read the "guide to buying scooters" how to?

it gives you stuff to think about... might look at it if you haven't yet...

From what I hear Kymco makes really quality scoots. They're fairly new to this country (a couple years or so) but have been making and selling scooters overseas for decades. People that own them tend to love them.

That said, the Bet & Win is a 4 stroke, so you're not going to be able to do much in the way of performance upgrades. If you want to dig into performance tuning stick with the 2 strokes. If not, the Bet & Win is probably a good choice.

Well, after an hour or two of poking around the internet to see what people have to say about this thing I found the average horsepower rating was 20hp. That I like. I mean, I've got a bike that has 33hp stock and it gets around just fine. 20hp would be more than enough to pull me around, so I wouldnt be looking for performance gains out of it.

The question I pretty much need to ask myself is how well something with 10-12hp could pull me around compared to the 20hp. That price tag really sticks out.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a Stella. I love the way it looks (very classic), I love that it's a 2 stroke, and I love that it has a manual transmission. I haven't researched it yet, but I hope someone makes an expansion chamber for the Stella. Now THAT would be a fun scooter. With a good pipe and a slight change of gearing it would probably be an 80+ mph bike!

Just did a bit of research. Yes, there are aftermarket pipes for the Stella... ScootRS, Sito Plus, and Simonini to name a few. I even found some dyno charts for those pipes. It seems you can more than double the horsepower and torque on a Stella with the right expansion chamber. In fact, you can buy all the parts needed to fully stage a Stella. Now this is getting interesting! LOL

Didn't mean to get off topic but wanted to answer my own question in the last post. (thinking this would make a good thread topic for the Stella section here)

The Kymcos are pretty good, we sold them at the YMC dealership for a time and never had any issues with them. And while the price is high, keep in mind we're talking about a 250 and not a 50 here. Half of The FEZ rides Kymco scooters and they've held up pretty good to the abuse most 16-21 year olds can dish out to a scooter.

ScootRS is pretty good outfit. I was looking at ordering a restoerd Lambretta from them a year ago, but got the Chetak instead at a great price, ( which I sold to get the jet ski, I later sunk!) Also look at Scomo for parts for vintage style parts that Provo does not carry.

Hi CHiPs! (thinking MHiPS might be more accurate! LOL)

I've never seen a Kymco in person, but everything I HAVE seen tells me they are very well made.

Funny... so ScootRS sells restored Lambys? And makes Expansion Chambers? Sounds like a very well rounded scooter company! Maybe they should stick to one or the other though... their pipe wasn't the best of the three I listed. It was still a big improvement over the stock pipe though.

Anyway... nice to see you're still here to share your insights and opinions.

Sincerely,

Erika

ScootRS is actually a Vietnamese company with a US office.Their primary business was selling restored scooters overseas. The parts end of things have evolved from the original business. The old site was incredibly nice JAVA run but now it looks like cr@p, I suppose this has to do with the N. American distribution center opening up.

Just a quick observation. While blasting the back roads yesterday on my stock 05 Zuma, I noticed cycle lights far behind in my mirrors. The guy caught me within a few miles and it turned out to be a Kymco. I don't know which one since I haven't checked them out but it was a nice ride. Didn't get to talk to the guy much since we were rolling and I soon turned off but he ask how fast on my Zuma. I have been running consistantly 38 to 42 on near level roads and he said he ran 45 to 48. Of course he looked about 50 pounds or so lighter so that acounts for some of that. I also was not running wot once I saw him coming up because I wanted to check the scoot out. Parting words were we liked the looks of each others rides.

my friend has a super 9 and says it goes 55 mph stock... I've never seen it but that's pretty good for a 2 stroke 50cc... but it's also LC...

MCUSA's Journalist, Korf, has a Super 9 that he takes around on short stints. He really talks it up.

Trixie-- the Stella's a great scooter, and I looked at it too. I bought a used Bajaj Chetak instead (practically the same scooter, visually, based on the PX150 design), but I liked the four-stroke over the two.

I added a POC II performance pipe, and disabled the TRICS ignition timing, which is designed for third-world countries with poor-quality gasoline. With these minor mods, my scoot jumps out of first and second gear, and has a ton of torque. I tested it out on a rural highway yesterday and against a mild headwind, was going 60 mph uphill.

Not bad for a 4-stroke, 150 cc, all-metal scooter.

Kymco scooters are the most popular scooters here where I live. They seem to be everywhere. Especially when you ride around the university.

I personally have a Stella. I love it. I wanted a scooter with a metal body, manual transmission, 2-stroke engine, and a warranty and the Stella fit all those requirements.
