I have an 07 QJ RX8 and I cannot get the thing tuned right. It only has 250 miles on it and has ran good off and on since I bought it brand new. I took it back to the place I bought it a few times and they told me it was fine. Can someone give a procedure to properly tune the carb? I know its one screw but I cannot seem to get it right. Also I checked the plug and it looks ok and I cleaned it. Maybe it's the issue?

The problem is absolutely no take off. Its super slow until the power band kicks in. I know I could change out the clutch springs, which I was thinking of doing. Being bone stock shouldn't it run decent as is? This thing in really making me angry. There are quite a few of the same scooters in town that are all old people with bone stock ones and they cream me off the line. I am at a loss here and not sure what to do.

Also, maybe have no bearing on anything, but it seems to suck a lot of gas. That could just be in my mind.

clean your carb check, check your oil or spark, but I mean alot of scooter have no take off, if u want better acceleration try getting a different variator

Carb has been cleaned twice. Has good gas and oil. Spark looks good, but maybe the plug is fowling a little and sluggish.

Taking off a little slow is expected, but this is rediculous. I should also mention that it gets worse as it warms up. I start it and let it warm up. If I take off too soon it sputters for a while. Then it seems to run pretty great for about 5 minutes. Then it gets warm and it loses everything on the bottom end. So bad sometimes it will not take off and all and I have to pull over and kind of clean it out before it will go.

Do take off at a higher rpm do I change the variator or just the clutch springs. I am happy with it when it hits the mid range and top end. Its the bottom that is horrible.

The variator, the variator is basically a different gear so you'll have better acceleration if you would change that.,,,...

So what is the procedure to tune the carb and get that where it needs to be? If I get that where I feel confident it needs to be then I know I need to look elsewhere for problems.

I will also look into a new variator.

Changing the clutch springs to stiffer ones would raise my engagement RPMs, right? If I could get it to engage later and be in the power band then the gearing should be fine. When its cold it takes off out of the hole like a raped ape. Its when it warms up that it barely moves.

Wow, no answers yet? Either people are tight lipped or I need to find a more used forum.:)

Yes changing the clutch springs would give you a higher engagement.
A variator is not a "gear" it is a secondary clutch more or less. In fact it is referred as that in the manual actually.

Give me a layout of EXACTLY what you want to know about carbs and i will tell you. I will subscribe to this thread and answer all your questions. You can also Private message me if you like. Let me know what carb you have and all the jets and how many turns out the Idle and A/F screw is out and what type of airbox and ANY mods you have and what state and the altitude you live in.

You have to also remember that people are busy and to give it some time for responses. Don't be the typical noob who acts like 10 minutes is enough time for a question to be answered. Everyone has lives outside the internet and if your like me your working, going to school and actually modding the bikes i have.
