I thought I'd see if the NADA web site had lists of scooter "used prices"
and sure enough they do...
Here is what it says about mine!
Low Retail Average Retail
Base Price
$1,090 $1,430
Options
Security Alarm System: $60 $70
Exhaust-High Performance (Street): $160 $185
TOTAL PRICE $1,310 $1,685
Anyone else think they are a little high?
But according to this... I'd be okay if I had a exhaust on it only... I'd be able to sell it for $1685... (perfect condition) with an alarm and exhaust on it...
but with all the other stuff... I'd have to ask way more... to bad they didn't have more performance parts options... oh well...
maybe this is why the CRAZY people on ebay are asking $2700 for a 02 zuma? They look them up and double the price? Who knows... LOL!
anyway just wanted to show this and say that anyone looking to sell their scooter can get values at www.nada.com

I think that's way too high.

Just for curiosity's sake I went to the link that Jered gave and checked my 01 Vino. With pipe, windshield, and trunk (no trunk but do have a rear rack and basket, thinking basket is cheaper than top box but also have new vario, bigger tires, etc so it would sort of average out) I got an average price of just under $1500. Seems high to me too.

yep... that's why I posted it... maybe this is why people are trying to sell them for so much on eBay and stuff....
sucks they aren't worth more, then they go for used... but you know...

I'd be more interested to know whether the Ebayers are actually getting the requested amount for them. If the sellers are actually getting that kinda money for them, that could inflate the value of the sales that the NADA blue and black books are using. Simply put, the Ebayers may not be using the blue book value but rather the blue books are using the figures from the Ebayers are seeing from their actual sales.

I searched completed items and came up with:
2002 Zuma w/stage 1 for $1,626.99 with 777 miles (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4531509428&category=42594)
2005 Zuma with 37 miles for $1400 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4533624367&category=42594)
WOW on the 2005!!
I was hoping to get around $1800-$1900 for my 2004 Zuma with 450 miles on it. The brand new ones in my area are going for $2500ish out the door with tax, tags, etc....

Hi Mark,
Nice to see you again!
Funny thing... I found Provo via an ad on ebay for a stage 2 Vino from a man in WI that got all of his things from Provo and gave Provo high praise in his ad.
That said, the bidding got up to just under $1200 at auction's end and didn't make reserve. Staging ads value to a scoot, but only when buyers know what the heck staging is all about. Apparently not many ebayers do. I do hope he got a fair price for his Vino eventually.

Yups... Zuma is no more..
Cost me $800 to own it almost 9 months- gotta love selling barely used scooters...
I wish I would have done more research instead of just walking in the dealer and buying the 1st thing that was a sporty 2 stroke...
Anyway- check out this thread... (http://www.provoscooter.com/vbull/showthread.php?t=1902)

Mark, $100 a month is STILL cheaper than renting a scoot ;)
I dont think you did too bad getting that much! Keep in mind that I paid 1850 brand new out the door.

It doesn't matter what a book says or what people are asking, it matters what people will pay. ::handleba

I can't complain...
I just wish I would have researched a tad more before I bought any scooter... I would have no doubt bought the Derbi from the get-go.
LOVED my Zuma but I am an out-of-the-box, dont' want to mod, don't want to increase my odds of breaking down, etc type of guy.
Stock or mild mod speeds in the mid to high 50's- no-brainer for me!
Resale- I think $1600 is better than buying a brand new one ($2500 out the door here with tax,tags,etc..) for the dude that bought it and I got more than I thought I would- win win....

I bought my Bajaj used with 50 miles on it for $700 less than the seller paid for it and it still has a warranty. Used is the way to go!

Great!
I would love to do the same thing but no used scoot in my area that I have seen... $700 lees and 50 miles- even if he trashed it- WHO CARES! That is a stage 2 with MHR over range tranny so if any damage was done, all those parts are replaced now anyway..
Good for you- wish I could do the same Bro!

It's funny... I have to think I simply got really lucky with my Vino.
I'd never even considered scooters before last summer. While browsing ebay for an RD-350 I stumbled onto an ad for a Vino. That got me curious, so I looked around and found more scooters. In fact, it was a stage 2 Vino on ebay that told me about Provoscooter.com. I decided I'd really like to try the scootering experience, but Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is NOT a scooter Mecca. You don't see them here and the motorcycle dealers do not stock them. By sheer coincidence a woman from Virginia that was working on her doctoral thesis and about to graduate from Carnegie Mellon University here in Pittsburgh owned a Vino that she used to commute to classes. She bought it second hand from a dealer and decided she didn't want to lug it to Virginia, then on to California where her boyfriend was. So she decided to sell it. Asking price... $950 obo. Had a few scruffs but nothing broken and ran like a top. 825 miles on the clock. I rode it, loved it, and offered her $700. She thought a bit, smiled, and told me that was the figure she'd decided as the cutoff.
We both walked away happy. I assume she's in California with her future hubby and I'm having a ball on her scooter!
Funny how good deals occasionally fall in our laps! LOL

Cool story and nice luck!
I had never thought about a scooter until last Summer either. Well I had one back in the day - Honda Elite 250- but never thought I would ride on again. After all, I can afford a "real" bike these days is what my mind set was.... I had a few friends get some Honda Metro's and 2 days later my Zuma was in the garage...

I LOVED YOUR STORY!!...I was both Resourcefull..and
"Bad Luck shleprock"....I Found a 2002 Derbi Atlantis wave ..in the local "Bike Traders"..WOW!! $300 for a 2002 Spanish scooter!!..I thought I could "Flush" the salt water out of this Scooter and be in Business...Well..When I started taking this scooter apart...I realized that the girl that used to own Her..Had run this Scooter into "TOTAL" rebuild territory..Supposedly her scooter Was an attempted theft..The ignition was "Chisled " with some kind of tool marks..making the key-slot useless..But It was THROWN into SALT WATER!! I have no clue how long it was submerged..I had a LOT of De-Rusting..and DE-Corroding..To do....BUT!! The real Story was that this Daughter of an "Atlantic Beach"...City Council member...ran this scoot into the ground!! The Crankshaft bearing surfaces were "GROUND" down and TRASHED!!...as well as every other Bearing surface..( I didnt know Needle bearings could do so much damage!!)...It was a Wonder this 1080 mile scooter lasted this Long....I kinda suspect INSURANCE FRAUD was the case here..Anyway..I had to buy A LOT OF STOCK PARTS for this scooter to see the road..The Crank is another Story..YES!! It was also TRASHED..(Suspect SHE RAN IT LEAN!!)..You should all see how a Bearing Rod can be Ground down to rubble!!..OK!..I am done..Just thought You should know what Im Goin through....John

Good luck with your scoot, John. Derbi makes really nice scooters. When you're done with it I know you're going to love it!
Too bad I'm not still in Jax. I'm thinking you would be a lot of fun to ride with... scootin' around Jacksonville Beach, lunch and a beer on the deck at the Crab Shack... a run down A1A to St. Augustine for a cold one at the Mill Top (maybe some great live music as well), and shopping all the neat shops on St. George street.
Sometimes I really do miss living there. It's a neat area. :)

St Augustine is a great Idea..you won't get run off the road there!!..I'm gonna transport the scoot though..Hmm..A1A..on a scooter. I dont know if Im that brave..Maybe if the Shoulder was wider ;) ::handleba

John... you're an official Provo-ite. You know you're at least going to put a pipe on your Derbi. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put a bigger cylinder on her too, as the stock one spent some unhealthy time at the bottom of the Atlantic.
We could handle A1A. ;)
