Some of the other scooter message boards have a java based chat. Just an idea, and I'm not going to bug Erich with idea until after the new scooter forums poll closes, but just tossing the idea out there. We could pre-arrange chat times like every Friday 9pm ET, 6PM on the west coast... Just an idea.

Thats 5pm my time for those who don't know Alaska is earlier than pacific...

There is also those in Hawaii who are 2 hours earlier than Pacific...

I'm all game for it... It'd be awesome to have a live chat set up to talk on and stuff... We'd need a librarian or something to cut and paste important info that comes up during the chat though...

King you so Smart!

Well, the times were just an example. The chat room also doesn't have to exactly be all technical either.

I'm looking at the votes and am rather surprised by the results. I'm curious to hear some of the ones who don't like it to chime in with their thoughts. (If you don't want to openly post, feel free to email or PM me!)

9 people... WOW

to me it is easier to talk in a chat- get the info you want right then and there and if unclear you can ask ???'s or tell your issue in a different way so others understand and you understand them.

Posts on a board sometimes can be read not the way the writer intended as we all know..

My thoughts are is that it keeps the idle chit chat down on the threads. Rather than have 30 posts in a thread of replies just gets a bit tough to try and keep up on.

Thats why I think a Gerneral Chat forum would be good... I see other forums have "chat rooms", but they go mostly unused...

I find general/off topic forums are usually the most used on all the boards I mod on. I like them a lot. I also like special forums like "Voting Booth" where all the polls can go. Chat rooms are more like an event gathering or areal time community BS session. Both seem to live well together on my other boards.

14 people on at the moment, man a chat room would be coolio. Would be a great addition especially for technical issues/questions relating to performance mods and maintanence.

I actually voted no only because other chat rooms are a complete waste of time.
Either there is no one to chat with or someone will just post obscene porn ads over and over and over and......
I guess if it was well moderated and alot of people participated it would be a good thing.

I've never encountered that. Forum chats on boards I mod on are usually moderated, but Java chat rooms do not support bots or spiders so spam won't be an issue especially since you need to be registered to log on. The chats most likely would be pre-organized ahead of time, as does most message boards. Java chat room typically do not experince a lot of the same issues found in something like puiblic AOL chat room when you get slammed by things like 14/g/new york or COLOR=Navy]for chicks hit 999[/COLOR] garbage.

Well ok then. I vote yes.

I guess, I should've been more specific initally in defining java board chat rooms from IM chat boards like ICQ, IRC and AOL type chat rooms.
