Please help. I just purchased a 07 Key west with 150 miles on it. The scooter has a very hard time starting. The electric start turns the motor over but it never starts. It will eventually start only after kicking it over for a few minutes. The gas is fresh, the battery is fully charged, and the spark plug is new and the correct. All electrical connections are tight. Once started it runs great. This problem still occurs when the scooter is warmed up. Does anyone know where I should start?

Thanks

Try cleaning the carb. It likely will have built up varnish while it was sitting.

Thanks for your response. The carb is clean. I'm going to buy another battery. I have read that the starter may be pulling all the juice from the battery and not have enough in reserve to power the ignition. Wish me luck.

What does the plug look like after attempts to start the scooter? It's possible the engine is not getting the proper air/fuel mixture and an adjustment to the air screw may be necessary. Does it have an automatic or manual choke?

The plug looks great. It has a auto choke. I bought a new battery today. It still has problems starting with the electric starter. I'm charging it overnight since it's new.

Thanks

I'm having the same issue right now. I can start it on the 2nd kick but the electric start just makes a sound.

What did you do to fix it?

It may be the electric choke. It going back to the shop soon. I will report the diagnosis.

as a TGB dealer i see this issue on occasion
the battery has to be good & fully charged with the TGB'
also the carb has to be set right.
provided the plug is good and all battery connections & chassis
ground are clean & solid.

if the scooter will fire when you kick it the auto choke is good.
