hi all
I have an 06 vino which is the best. However it wil not start. the fuse is ok. battery is fine.
I have no front headlight. tail lite is fine. blinkers and horn work. I am trying to figure out. I can find no loose connections.
any suggestions would be appreciated

Is the engine turning over when you use the starter? Do you have to kick start it? Has the scoot been sitting for a while? The carb might need cleaned. We need a bit more information.

First off; the headlight runs off the stator (the battery doesn't have the amperage to run the headlight); so it won't light up until the scooter is running. There could be several issues that will prevent starting.
The most common causes are the automatic choke not working properly; the spark plug is dirty & fouled or you have a weak spark.
Check the condition of the plug. If it's dirty & fouled; try replacing it with a new; properly gapped plug.
Check for a spark; with the plug out; connect it to the plug wire; ground it against the frame & crank the engine over a couple of times. If there is no spark; or the spark in not a blue-white colour; you could have a problem with your CDI. This test will work best with a new plug.
I don't know how to test the automatic choke (I have a manual choke on my scooter); so someone else will have to guide you there.
Try what I suggested & post back with the results. Things can be narrowed down from there.

To check automatic chokes take the airbox off and cover your hand on the air intake on the carb and if the bike starts its the choke.

As posted, does it turn over and try to start or is it completely dead? Did you check the kill switch? They sometimes get turned on (or off whichever it is) accidently. I have even accidently hit the switch when riding. Otherwise starting problems are generally caused by three problems, fuses, fuel delivery or ignition.

gave the service tech a call. he suggested maybe a little water in gas. put some stuff in let it sit all a while it started, so I just changed the gas, lol nothing to do at 1 am just got home from work. it is back purring like the little Vino it is.
the service tech stated that other than routine maint he has never seen one come in for anything.
btw 4100 miles

Im glad to hear that! Vino are yamaha's so they are bullet proof.

That's good news!
3500 miles here and running strong, and I ride it as hard as it will go. The only problem I had was the conn rod recall which kinda pi$$ed me off, but no problems other than that.

I have a 2007 Vino and have no problems starting up cold, but when it has been run for 10-15 min, I have trouble starting again and sometimes can't start at all after I hear what sounds like backfiring. Any thoughts?

Backfire is ignition that occurs in the intake or exhaust system rather than inside the combustion chamber. It can be caused by too lean or too rich conditions. Also can be caused by the plug mis-firing which could be the CDI or a loose plug wire or bad plug. My 07 is sometimes hard to start after it gets hot, but no backfiring. I always figured it was the nature of the scooter.

Carlson's response was excellent. Since the plug is the cheapest and easiest part to rule out, I would replace that first. If this is not the issue, now you have a spare plug, which is not a bad thing. I have found that sometimes plugs develop very fine cracks in the porcelin insulator for the center electrode. When the plug heats up (after several minutes of riding, for instance) the crack expands, and the plug will fire extra sparks to the path of least resistance (the side of the plug). I'm actually guessing that is what happens, but nevertheless, I have had plugs with cracked insulators that fire well when the motor is cold, then crap out after warming up.

I am having the exact same problem with my 05 Vino. The electric start is not working but it will turn over on the 1st or 2nd kick.
So you put a bit of water into a fresh gas tank and you have no problems now? How much water?

Water in the gas will cause hard starting/running. NEVER PUT WATER IN THE GAS TANK. Your problem is not related.
how old is the battery? It sounds like the battery is not fully charged.

It is a few years old. I had it on a trickle charger all winter. I think it may be that it is missing distilled water in the battery. I just looked in it and 3 were dry. Im going to go put some water in it and see if it is any better.

With 3 dry cells; it's no wonder you were having problems.
