I sat on one at my dealer's while there to give him some money on an incoming Vino 125.

The bike is in the low-slung mode of the Honda....you know which one...I just can't think of the name. It is very comfortable, and would be for a long trip...that's what this is made for...120 mph speedo, $5800.00...

The outer styling...that the onlooker sees...is very futuristic...the windscreen seems part of the bike, and flows smoothly from the front. The front headlights are like cat-eye slits.

Money aside, I would not like this riding position for around town riding...it is even more laid back than a full chopper, and the actual rider height is quite low, giving it the comfort of an easy chair, but who takes an easy chair into traffic? For scooter riders especially, who are used to an upright seating position, which gives a good view of the street (road), this low unit would seem like one had sunk out of sight...presumably, a following auto would not feel the same...

I looked at one of those... my dealer has the big scooter sitting in the showroom... I wasn't impressed...

It's basically a motorcycle that is made scootered... you know... I like the small engines...

The 400cc Majesty is in between the Honda Reflex 250cc (~ $5500) & Silver Wing 600cc (~ $7500), but it is closer to the Reflex in price. Seems like a better deal for the money if you like the maxi scoot thing--personally I think they look like two wheeled Batmobiles :man:
Larry
I agree with your comments about riding the maxiscooters. I'd rather be sitting upright than on a Lazyboy on the highway. I also like be able to see things around me better and be more visible to cars.

Hope you have fun on you Vino 125. Maybe that will be my next scooter, too. I am waiting for one to come out in blue:)

LOL Hiya Sooz :)

Batmobile... yeah, I think you're on to something there.

I was thinking those Maxi's looked like the flying bike thingies the traffic cops used to use on the Jetsons. If you could get one to fly and make a tweet-tweet-tweet-tweet-tweet sound you'd be all set!

Hey Erika
Today is the day I may get a chance to work on installing my Japanese style blinkers--its going to be almost 60 and sunny. I wonder if I ordered the last set Erich had in stock to sell??

Wow Jetsons & and Batmobiles--is the future look just a reincarnation of past fantasies?

Wow... almost 60? Lucky you, Susan!

Well... it's almost 50 here, and sunny. I'm going out to ride in a bit. The cold gets to me more when I ride than it did when I was younger. But it's just too nice out to NOT ride today!

Ya know... I was thinking of dropping Erich a line. I really do like those Japanese blinkers. I should order a set if he still has them. Funny thing is, I just ordered a new cover for the right rear one that was missing. Cost me almost $40 from the Yammie shop. Won't need it if I do the blinkers. Oh well... LOL

Good luck with your blinker install... let me know how it goes! :)

I have a Majesty, and have put about 1000 mi on it so far. I don't know what you folks mean by "laid back" riding position. Seems like you sit pretty upright, especially at low speeds in town. On the highway its a different story. You want to be tucked in somewhat behind the windscreen because that screen acts like a big sail and cross winds at 80 mph can be white knuckle experiences. BTW, you can move the seat position forward and back to suite your needs.

I have had a lot of people come up to me and ask about the bike. Most really like the fact it looks like a touring bike and has lots of underseat storage. I get decent respect from other cars in town due to its size and the fact it can keep up with most cars up to 75-80 mph.

I was not a fan of the bigger scoots until recently but hey- if you like it ride on. I still think they are 2 different animals- small 2 strokes vs. large 4 strokes but the larger bikes are starting to grow on me...

Derbi Gp-250 coming out in a few months that is going to be a monster performance scoot from what I have heard so far.

Good God Almighty....this thing do get down the road!!

My dealer, who lets me ride what I'm interested in, asked if I'd like to try the Majesty, as I was saying that I cancelled my order for a Vino 125 after sitting on one and feeling like an elephant on a trike. (The feeling is nowhere nearly as pronounced on my Zuma, maybe because I can slide my butt all the way back)

You see, there ain't much of me that's not XXL sized...and i was telling the dealer this, so he offered the Majesty, and, as I had just rode up in the Zuma...

Well, you twist the throttle...the front end gets light, and whoosh....40mph has come and gone...quite a feeling, coming from the Zuma.

I spent time doing figure 8's and circles in a side street to see if I could learn to handle these 13 - 14" tires...it wasn't too hard after a few minutes...this is a 455 lb bike.

My price, with trading in my Zuma...tax and shipping came to $4950.

Hmmm..I do take back what I said previously about the low riding position...on the road, it is not noticable, and seems like a scooter...a very powerful version, but a scooter nonetheless.

It does have a touring, rather than a sport look, and is a bit longer....no getting up on the sidewalk all the time with this bike...someplaces yes, but it is a big bike.

Most of my riding is really doing errands around town. This scooter wants to get to the open road, or the freeway...no matter...I could drive it to Toronto on the Queen E, where they routinely go 85....no problem.

As for grocery shopping, the seat lifts up to reveal a double compartment large enough for a body...a small one, but you get the picture... at 455 lb it could park without a lock in its own parking space without fear of theft.

Will I buy it? ...I could, thanks to Yamaha credit...but it is a lot of samoleons compared to my scooter...... My next bike ?? Well, I was thinking of a Kymco Bet & Win 250, or something with a 55mph capability.
The Kymco is sold in Rochester...80 mi. away...it's a bit of a hike for servicing or adjustment if the bike wasn't running. I WILL stick with an Automatic...in cars/trucks I do truly hate 'em...but in bikes they are pure pleasure...

Any other suggestions of a slightly larger platform with a slightly bigger power plant ??

Larry

Derbi GP1-250 coming out in a few months that is going to be a monster performance scoot from what I have heard so far.

Have not heard much about it but from the few things I have heard- this is going to be the 250 to get! I am not sure how aggressive they are going to go on the styling- the new 50cc is almost a crotch rocket.

After the break-in period, I took my Majesty up to 100 mph, no problem. And I was nowhere near the 8000 rpm redline. Just don't try it on a windy day. Downhill, no wind and tucked behind the windscreen, I bet this bike will do 120.

I would still like to find some aftermarket exhausts for this bike, to make it faster off the line. Dynojet makes an afternarket ECU for the European 2004 model, but has not tested anything for the US 2005 model. Remember, its fuel injected so all the mixture settings are determined electronically, usually with the help of a Dyno.

I think we're losing sight of why we're here. I adore my Vino simply because it goes fast and it's s 49cc scoot.

You start adding CC's and it's not the same animal.

If you want fast cheap you can buy my Twinstar!

Hee Hee- I agree Aviatrixie. 2 different animals when getting into the big cc scooters.

I used to not be a fan of the bigger scoots but now that I see what they can do and maintain smaller overall size I am warming up to them. The Majesty a lot bigger than I think I would ever buy at almost over 400lbs. The Vino 125 is about the same size as the Vino Classic- not bad but I am not a fan of retro styling.

I like smaller scoots- for what $$$ I have in my scoots I could have bought a bigger cc scoot but I like the little scoots as well. GP-1 250 with 22HP stock- NICE!

Yeah i like the idea of pushing the little scoots to close to the same speeds of the bigger scoots atleast a 250 anyway.

hmmmm... a GSXR makes close to 200 hp... and weighs less than 400 lbs?

Motorcycles have become insane. I'll stick with my Vino! LOL

A little bit bigger platform than the Zuma would be nice for my XXL frame.

The Majesty was a LOT bigger...not so that it was unwieldy on the highway...quite the contrary...smooth as silk. And for those who ride two-up, this bike would not even notice.

The size would come into play in running the multiple errands that the Zuma makes so easy...it would not let itself be pushed over a curb onto a sidewalk, for instance, without power assist or at least a big shove.

If only the Kymco 250 were available in Buffalo, or a reasonable alternative.

Yamaha, and anyone with a 2-stroke 50, has to change this year....what the outcome will be will be very interesting indeed.

I own three other high performance sport bikes; a Yamaha R-1 and two Yamaha YZF-750s. The R-1 and the 750s are all capable of well over 160mph, and are great track bikes and backroad carvers. But the Majesty has a practical side with its enormous storage volume. That's why I have it. It allows me to go on short trips around town and on the highway that I can't do on the sport bikes, because I cannot store anything on them. And its got mirrors you can actually see out of (ever use sportbike mirrors?). Its a lot more economical than my car for short trips, like double to tripple the gas milage.

But I won't give up safety, manuverability, and some semblance of performance. I don't care how much you modify a Vino or Zuma, they will never have the road respect of the Majesty or the other larger "scooters". I agree that these larger bikes really don't fit into the class of "scooters". They are only called that because the have belt drive auto transmissions, like the lighter scooters do. I would also like the Majesty to be a bit lighter. At 443 lbs its heavier than any of my other sport bikes. But the weight does improve the stability of the bike at 90-100 mph, especially in a cross wind. This bike handles very well due to its very low center of gravity.

So, its really a nice short range touring bike, that's as home on the highway as on city streets. Its not as fun jumping sidewalks and sneaking in and out of slow moving city traffic as perhaps the smaller scooters are. But I have no problem splitting lanes (its legal here in CA), and when traffic gets over 50 mph, its in its element. It will cruise at 90 mph no problem, and it will stop safely from those speeds.

Larry.....have you looked at the Vento Phantom r4i 150. I am 6' @220 so most of the 50cc offerings are a bit tight for me. I went and sat on a Vento 150 and even though it still has a flat step through floor it has more leg/foot/knee room and the bars are in a slightly higher more relaxed position. The 150cc 4-stroke, which may in fact only be a 125, still should have enough grunt to more than flow with traffic on any street short of a Freeway without 'having' to modify it first. The front end is very sport bikeish looking, but from the seat back it is all scooter. And at a msrp of $2199 still affordable. And many dealers may be somewhere south of that price.

The only drawback I see is there is only enough room in the underseat for a skull cap type helmet and the plastic and switches are kinda cheap.

Nice write up dhlcycler-

Good to hear you still like zipping around on a scoot (even if it is bigger) when you have a stable to choose from!

I've been looking at the Kymco "People" 250...stupid name but a VERY cool looking scoot. I don't know what it's top speed is but, at 250 it should get up and go reasonable well. Anyone ever ride one?

havent i seen your postings in several places? i recall you preferred zumas but did or were considering a majesty if so how do they compare? if not how much cash have you laid out on your zuma so far? i'm not being funny i'm torn between the fun light weight but short logevity of a zuma versus the power and longevity of a majesty.any advice, ideas? boulonman

if you want fast and reliable... get a large cc scooter....
I have dumped almost the cost of a large scooter into mine.... and if I knew what I know now.... probably would have done it differently...

...It happened almost too fast...here was a neighbor of my coworker selling a new Majesty, in the Blue I like...

14 miles on it...he's wheelchair bound, mainly, and wanted to try it...so he bought one from my dealer, for cash. It did not work, so he's essentially dumping it...for 4k (!!?!!!)

The dealer confirms this, and the warranty is transferrable...

I've ridden a Majesty...it is a bit big, and maybe Yamaha will come up with a 250cc...but here was this new bike in my face, and I could not afford to say no...

I'll be selling the Zuma right away...it will be a great buy for someone...
